Profound Lessons from GAZA

The situation in Gaza is complex and sensitive, involving political, historical, and humanitarian dimensions. The recent events in Gaza have horrified the world and exposed the brutality of the oppressors and their allies. The people of Gaza have astounded the world. When every human right was turned away from them, the people of Gaza taught the world humanity. Let us reflect over some of those lessons:

Faith is the Saviour

As Muslims we believe that help, success and victory are from Allah Ta'ala. We learn this lesson from the people of Palestine where their firm Iman and faith in Allah is the key driving factor behind their survival and success. True Iman is a source of much strength, hope, and resilience for the people whose lives have been disrupted by them being deprived of the basic needs of human life. With all the death and destruction around them they continue to remain positive and undeterred by their odds. There is no normality in terms of accessing basic needs, health care, medicines, travel, etc. Their faith and conviction helps them overcome the grief and adversity of these challenges, and their trust in Allah Ta'ala is a source of immense comfort. The lesson for us is that true Muslims find strength in their Salah, Duas, spiritual practices and common brotherhood.

Patience in Adversity

Among the most profound attributes of a believer is Sabr (patience). The people of Gaza have demonstrated remarkable resilience and patience in the face of significant challenges. They have been occupied and besieged in an open air detention camp for over 70 years. They have experienced the most brutal and catastrophic air bombardment in living history. Notwithstanding this, they remain patient, hopeful and full of bravery and courage. The lesson of patience can be learnt best from the people of Gaza.

Unity and Collective Endurance

The people of Gaza have endured what no other community has in this time and age. Their persecution has brought about a strong sense of unity and collective brotherhood second to none. Through their unity they have repelled the strongest forces in the world. When a community is united and strives collectively, anything can be achieved. Unity is strength and when that strength is based on truth and justice then it can overpower falsehood. The Muslim world can draw a lot of inspiration from the Palestinian resistance. In unity we shall find strength and in division is our weakness and downfall.

One Community

The unity and togetherness of Gazans is the real key to their survival through the disaster and destruction they have faced. This is testimony to them being a strong and resilient community that will not give up their faith or land. Gaza has a strong sense of community, and people rally together to support one another during grief, sorrow and difficult times. They demonstrate a collective determination to persevere in the face of adversity.

Academic Development

The doctors, nurses, journalists, health workers, humanitarian aid workers, and other professionals of Gaza have taught the world the true meaning of loyalty to humanity. Many, at great risk to their own lives, remained on the ground to save the lives of others. And sadly, many have paid the ultimate price for their determination. Their desire to achieve academic excellence and fulfil their responsibility to humanity despite adversity is admirable and inspiring. Their conduct is a lesson for all professionals on true adherence to human values and the ultimate example of what it means to save lives.

Detachment from this World

The people of Palestine have shown that true life lies in standing for Islam, justice, peace, and to please Allah Ta'ala. These are ideals and values that are worth dying for. Love for this world and fear of death are two main drawbacks that hinder us from sacrificing for Islam and adhering to our obligations. The people of Gaza have shown tremendous character in this respect, where their preparedness for death was genuine. Such a condition is the outcome of deep faith and conviction in Allah and His divine promises.

We pray to Allah Ta'ala to reward the Palestinian people for their sacrifices and endurance and to grant us the qualities of patience and resilience.
