In Honour of the Greatest People after Nabi (Salallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam)

It is an undisputed fact that the responsibility for the protection and preservation of the noble Deen of Islam was handed over to an extraordinary and elite group of “stars” known as the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen). They were the closest to Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) and learnt and understood the Deen directly from Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam). It is indeed through their trials, tribulations, sacrifices and relentless actions that generation after generation will continue to enjoy and relish the sublime beauties of the chosen Deen-ul-Islam.

The Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen) not only taught Islam, but also exhibited its splendor by becoming role-models of the ultra-loveliness of Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam)‘s teachings. The Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen)’s undying love for the Nabi of Allah (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam), coupled with their unparalleled sincerity, added greater elegance to the noble Deen of Islam. Their actions were indeed superb and prodigious and it effectively captured the essence of the life of Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam).

An immense plus-factor in their favour was their unadulterated sincerity and humility purely for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala.

In Surah Al-Fath, Allah Ta’ala confirms the status of the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen) when He states:

“Muhammad is the messenger of Allah and those with him [i.e. the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen)] are strong against the disbelievers, and among them (Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen)) they are compassionate. When you see them they are in the posture of ruku and sajda. They seek only the honour and pleasure of Allah and their identity is reflected on their faces by the mark of Sajda.”
(Ch. 49; V. 29)

This verse effectively announces Rasulullah (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam)’s Prophethood and the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen) being his loyal followers. It also acknowledges and reconfirms the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen’s noble status and attachment to Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam).

The very fact that Allah Ta’ala declared: “Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him”

Is clear indication of their eternal camaraderie with Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) and their perpetual noble status. This label of Allah Ta’ala being pleased with them is also a directive that we too should be pleased with them and love them as Allah Ta’ala does.

In Surah al-Nisa Allah Ta’ala states: “And whosoever rebels against Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) after being guided, and he follows not the path of the Muslims then We will turn him away as We turn away (people) ...” (Ch. 04; V. 115)

In this verse “Muslims” refers to the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen). A pre-condition to our love for and obedience to Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam) is for us to also love and follow the life-style of the Sahaba Kiraam (Radiyallahu ‘Anhum Ajmaieen). After all, was it not these illustrious companions who spent the most time with our beloved Nabi (Salallahu ‘Alayhi Wasallam)?
