Curse from the Throne of Allah

Abu Umamah (رضي الله عنه) reports that the Nabi of Allah ﷺ said:

”Four people whom Allah SWT cursed and the Angels said aameen to ... are ones who:

mislead the needy;
deceive a blind person by misdirecting him to a well, or lie to him that an animal is in front him;
give a wrong address to another person; and
beat up their parent/s until they (the parent/s) complain to Allah SWT.”

These may seem to be simple issues. Worse still, to some ignoramuses it might even appear as insignificant, trivial and much-ado-about-nothing. However, when one considers precisely where these proclamations emanate from … The throne (Arsh) of Allah SWT … then the scenario becomes quite serious. Since the Arsh is the most supreme position in the heavens, one immediately understands that the warnings contained in the hadeeth are indeed very, very severe and cannot be shrugged off as petty.

The needy, the poor and the destitute are all vulnerable victims because they lack basic knowledge and are invariably scorned upon. The apparent “lowly position” of these unfortunate ones, is sadly misconstrued. The so-called “bourgeois” abuse their status and take undue advantage by undermining, suppressing and oppressing the poor in the community. It goes without saying that such ill- and maltreatment cause serious mental and physical injuries, leaving them scarred for life. Let us take the case of a patient in a rural village of Pakistan, when a medical team decided to experiment on him. What the medical team did not know is that this patient knew some English, and Alhamdulillah, was able to repel their sinister plot.

Similarly, one who deceives a blind person by fooling around and saying that there is a well or an animal in front of him (which is a lie) is cursed. Since the one who is denied “sight” (the blind) is dependent on others, enjoys a unique Allah-given honour and dignity. Such “sightless” people should in reality be afforded the greatest respect and serve as shining examples to the “sighted”, in reality … “the blinder than the blind ones”. These special servants of Allah ﷻ, deserve great respect, dignity and decorum like all other human being.

As a matter of great importance, the physically and mentally disabled persons, as well as our senior citizens must be treated with the greatest of respect. Additionally, such servants of Allah SWT are worthy and deserving of our assistance under any and all circumstances.

The third point mentioned in this hadith is also related to deception and causing difficulty to others. Lending support and being helpful to others is a hallmark of a Muslim. The life of our beloved Nabi SAW is replete with examples of being simply human, helping those who are less fortunate than us and being just good to others.

Lastly, comes the severe warning of never ever causing any harm or injury to one’s parents. It is unimaginable and unthinkable of anyone raising his voice or hands on his parents. Irrespective of the crime or offence, the parents’ lofty position in the sight of Allah SWT, makes them totally immune from their children’s anger and retaliation.

…فَلاَ تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلاَ تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلاً كَرِيمًا) الإسراء (23 :

“… say not to them a word of disrespect, nor reprimand them but speak to them with words of (respect, dignity) and honour.”

The Noble Quran explicitly forbids even using the term “uff” … loosely translated in English as "huh?" The grievous consequence of showing even the slightest disrespect to parents is a sure way of inviting the immediate wrath and chastisement of Allah SWT in this world and the hereafter.
