UMTATA: Torrential rains have swept across parts of the Eastern Cape causing heavy floods. The downpours and subsequent flooding has claimed 10 lives. Hundreds of displaced people are being housed in various halls around Mthatha (Umtata) and are being helped with food and clothing. It is estimated that at least 400 homes have been affected by flooding.
Members of the Darul Ihsan Centre’s Relief Team, in conjunction with members of the Ixopo Muslim community, distributed 324 blankets to pupils of the Kwa Mbingeleli Primary School in the Nokweja area near Ixopo this weekend.
Ulama from the Darul Ihsan Centre have been invited by members of the Ixopo Muslim community to host a Jumuah programme this Friday, 19 April at the Ixopo Masjid.
On Saturday, 13 April 2013 Ulama and members of Darul Ihsan Centre paid a visit to several communities to the South of Durban. Assisted by local brothers active in their areas, a guided tour to lower Umlazi, Kwamakutha, Illovo, Adams Mission and Folweni was undertaken.

An exclusive workshop for Ulama to empower them with Marital Counselling skills was conducted by Darul Ihsan Centre in conjunction with the Pietermaritzburg Jamiatul Ulama on Saturday, 23 February 2013. The scholars of Islam are the spiritual guides of the Ummah and are constantly faced by the social challenges experienced in society. The workshop focused on development of counselling skills and empowerment of marriage counsellors.
On Tuesday, 26 February 2013 the ‘Skills Development Programme’ initiative of Darul Ihsan Centre hosted a ‘Basic Plumbing Course’ at its Gem Tower office.
‘Youth of the Ummah’ (‘YOU’) held a special programme for varsity students on 15 February 2013 at the various tertiary campuses in KZN. The programme was strategically held on the first Friday Jumuah platform of the academic year.
The “FIRST AID & MEDICAL KNOWLEDGE” programme concluded with the second part held on Thursday, 31 January 2013 at the Darul Ihsan Centre office at Gem Towers, Overport.
The Departments of Social Development, Health, Education, Arts & Culture and Education held a two-day conference on “Social Ills” at the ‘Open Air School’ in Glenwood, Durban.

With humble beginnings of providing 50 sandwiches a day to hungry children at a nearby school, Darul Ihsan Centre’s ‘Feed a Pupil’ project has grown and seen sustained success over the past few years. The project provides prepared sandwiches to hungry pupils at local state schools.
