On Thursday, 17 January members of the Ixopo Muslim community, in conjunction with Darul Ihsan Centre distributed school bags and stationery packs to children at two rural schools in Ixopo.

The Imam of the Ixopo Muslim community, Maulana Muhammad Kolabhai, other members and Maulana Zubair Paruk from Darul Ihsan Centre facilitated the distribution of 200 school bags and 200 stationery packs to Grade I and 2 children from the Ixopo Village Intermediate School and another 35 school bags to the Ixopo State Aided Primary School.

The Ixopo Village Intermediate School has a roll of 1000 children and most come from informal settlements, low income households and households receiving social grants. The principal of the Ixopo Village Intermediate School, Mr M. Dlamini, vice-principal, Mrs Langa and other staff members expressed their sincere gratitude to the Ixopo Muslim community and Darul ihsan Centre for the distribution of the bags and stationery packs. The recipient children also expressed much elation and jubilation on receiving the items which were handed to them.

The principal of the Ixopo State Aided Primary School, Ms A. N. Hajaree, also expressed her appreciation on receiving the 35 school bags to be distributed to needy children in the school. The school has about 30 ‘orphans and vulnerable’ children with a roll of 636 pupils from Grade R to 7.

In 2011 the Ixopo Muslim Community distributed 1000 blankets to the pupils of the Ixopo Village Intermediate School in the Darul Ihsan Centre’s national “Winter Sponsor-a-Blanket” campaign.

The Ixopo Muslim community expressed their sincere gratitude to Darul Ihsan Centre for their on-going assistance at times of need in Ixopo.
