Keep your record clean

If a person has any unfulfilled obligations (e.g. missed salah, missed fasts, unpaid zakah, unperformed hajj etc.), these should be discharged as soon as possible. Repentance, performing hajj or umrah, seeking forgiveness, giving charity etc. does not suffice for the fulfilment of these obligations. Together with repentance and istighfar, fulfilment is necessary.

An inventory should be made of all outstanding acts of ibadah and a sustained programme of fulfilment should be upheld. A bequest should also be made in one’s Will to compensate for unfulfilled obligations in the event one’s demise. Such a bequest should not exceed 1/3 of the estate.

Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The feet of the son of Adam will not move until he is asked about five things: how he lived his life, how he utilised his youth, how he earn his wealth, how did he spend his wealth and how did he practice on his knowledge.” Tirmizi
