Q: I would like to know the ruling about 41 Yaseens and where did it originate from?

A: The recitation of Yaseen Shareef has many merits and benefits. In principle, there is no specified amount of recitation of this Surah mentioned in the Quran and Hadith. Reciting a particular Surah a set number of times in certain instances may be established from the Ahadith. In other instances, this may be based on the experience of the pious elders and is similar to how a specific dosage of medication is prescribed. The experience of certain elders and pious scholars have given merit to the benefit of recitation of Surah Yaseen 41 times. However, this should not be regarded to be from the Sunnah or something compulsory.
