Q: What can a person do with tattoos applied to the skin out of ignorance?

A: The application of tattoos is prohibited in Islam. If possible, one should attempt to have the tattoo removed. However, if it is irremovable, Wuzu, Ghusl and Salah will be valid. The person should try to keep the area covered and not reveal it to others. With sincere repentance and reformation it is hoped that Allah Ta`ala will forgive him.
