A: Generally, matric farewell functions held today field many practices that are impermissible for Muslims to participate. The core values of a Muslim in terms of morality and obedience to our Creator are challenged and violated.

The dignity, spirituality and respect of a person is compromised when one indulges in an environment of disobedience and defiance to the laws of Almighty Allah. There is absolutely no worldly or spiritual benefit in attending any function that brings about moral deprivation and spiritual decadence. Every person has the capacity to think deeply and reflect over the reality and the believing heart will most definitely direct one to what is correct.

As an alternative, if friends wish to conclude the matric year on a farewell note, we suggest that a constructive programme of short guidance be arranged where those present can be given life changing ideas in terms of the future, character development, work place challenges, etc. This will fulfil the purpose of meeting and greeting and will also be in keeping with Muslim identity.

May Allah Ta’ala guide and protect our youth.
