These holidays fall on 29th April (Tuesday), 30th April (Wednesday), and 2nd May (Friday), in which school pupils and teachers will have the week off.
Department of Basic Education spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, said, “This is done to give the public and everyone involved in the school calendar enough time to plan, so there are no surprises when the time comes.
“These holidays are congested in a particular week, with one coming after the other, making it impossible for schools to remain open for an extended period.”
Despite the week off, the department has still ensured 200 days of school in the year, which is why the 2025 school year began two days earlier than 2024’s.
