Following service delivery and contractor issues, the service was officially relaunched on Wednesday this week, providing voice call services to victims of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). The service seeks to provide immediate professional support and counselling to victims of violence, and is capable of channeling through to other necessary government services where required.
“Due to the urgent need to resuscitate the services of the GBVCC, the department had to prioritise making voice services available. This means callers reporting incidents of GBVF will be able to do so by calling the command centre,” read a statement by the department.
In the first quarter of 2025, additional contact methods such as SMS, WhatsApp, Please Call Me, and Web-link are expected to roll out.
