Hazrat Maulana Abrar ul Haq Saheb Rahimahullah used to say if you have announced that the lecture will be 5 minutes then to take 6 minutes is a breach of trust.

The reason for this is that at times a person will hear your announcement and had 5 minutes to spare as his work was to commence after 10 minutes.

He sits with the impression that the lecture will terminate in 5 minutes - now when you take extra time you have made khiyanat in his time. You should understand the circumstances of people and speak accordingly. Our approach must be based on moderation. Nabi's (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) times were fixed, he was not unmindful of people.
