ALLAH IS ALL-POWERFUL
Among the pristine attributes of Allah Ta’ala is that He is All-Powerful, All-Wise, All Glory and Praise belongs to Him. That Allah Ta’ala possesses ultimate power and control over all things is central to Islamic belief. Nothing in the heavens or earth escapes the knowledge and decree of Allah and He does as He pleases. Verses of the Qur’an explain His Sovereignty and in His hand lies all good.
ALL SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS TO ALLAH
Say, “O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will, and You honour whomever You will and You humiliate whomever You will; in Your hand is all goodness. You are indeed All-Powerful over everything.” (3:26)
This verse so eloquently brings into focus the perfect power of Allah as it manifests itself in the rise and fall of nations and in the revolutions that rock countries. Here, enemies of Islam have been warned that they have not learnt their lesson from the rise and fall of the past wielders of power for they judge events and people from the material angle, while the truth is that all powers and governments of the world are in the hands of the All-Powerful, the One in whose hands lie all honour and disgrace. There is no doubt that he is fully able of elevating the poor and weak to occupy the thrones and wrest power from kings and monarchs. (Mariful Quran)
THIS IS NOT A TERRITORIAL PROBLEM
The unlawful occupation of Palestine and genocide of its people is not a regional crisis or war between two sides, the matter is a religious one. Every Muslim feels the hurt pain and suffering of our brethren in Palestine and cannot ignore their cries for peace, freedom and justice.
Palestine is the bleeding heart of the Muslim world. Every Muslim is pained by its occupation and loathes the oppression. Muslims are desirous of peace, justice and an end to the suffering.
THE BLESSED LANDS
Just as Allah Ta’ala has favoured some over others in blessings and good actions, there are parts of the world that are favoured by Allah with blessings and sanctity. The land of Shaam is regarded to be among the blessed and favoured parts of this earth. A number of Ahadith explain how this land is blessed, faith is protected here, angels spread their wings over this land and its people are firm in their commitment to Islam. Many messengers and their families lived here, and over 100 of them lie buried in the precinct. Over 4000 Sahabah y are also buried in the vicinity of the blessed land. Many other virtues can also be found. Land that is sanctified by the Qur’an and Hadith is sacred to all Muslims, irrespective of the geographical location. Like we face the direction of Makkah for every Salah, our hearts are also fixated towards the blessed lands and the plight of the Muslims who live there.
ISLAM WILL BE VICTORIOUS
Historically, wherever Muslims ruled, they ruled and governed with peace and justice according all citizens their due rights. The peace and justice of Islam attracted the hearts of people and became an attractive form of Da’wah for many to enter the Deen of Islam. Given that Allah Ta’ala is the sole Power and Controller of all affairs, it follows that the light of Islam shall always remain and never be completely extinguished. “They desire to extinguish the light of Allah, but Allah will cause His light to prevail , even though the idolaters dislike it.”(9:32) “They plot and plan, and Allah has full knowledge and grasp of their plans, even if their plans are to shift the mountains.” (14:46)
Muslims must always uphold the higher moral ground of mercy and humanity in all circumstances. This mercy is extended to prisoners of war and captives.
NONE CAN HELP BESIDES ALLAH
Muslims firmly believe that all help is from Allah Ta’ala. Success and victory is attributed to Allah Ta’ala who is the sole protector and guardian of the faithful.
“If Allah helps you none can overpower you, and If He forsakes you then who will help you...” (3:160)
“If you help the Deen of Allah, Allah will help you and make your feet firm.” (47:7)
The believers are called upon to have full trust in Allah, “Nothing will ever befall us except what Allah has destined for us. He is our Protector.” So in Allah let the believers put their trust.” (9:51)
Muslims must plan effectively, strategise and be fully prepared. Trust is placed fully in Allah Ta’ala - all help and victory is from the Almighty.
DO NOT GRIEVE OR DESPAIR
It is human nature to feel sad and grieved upon the merciless killing of other Muslims. This pain is felt by all Muslims, including the pious and righteous. The Muslim Ummah is likened to one body and when a part of the body is afflicted with pain and suffering then it results in pain for the entire Ummah. However, Muslims should not be overwhelmed and overtaken by grief. Whilst the loss of human life is tragic, our belief is that these fortunate souls are taken by the decree Allah Ta’ala to a far better abode of complete bliss, happiness and eternal comfort.
An important maxim of the Qur’an is for Muslims to be courageous and not lose hope. “And do not lose hope and do not grieve, as you will always have the upper hand as long as you are (true) Believers.” (3:139)
This verse was revealed as a consolation to the Sahabah y and to boost their morale and give them courage after the setback at the Battle of Uhud.
Allah further assures the Believers,”…if you are feeling pain, then they (the enemy) is also feeling pain just like you, (but) you have hope in Allah of what they do not have.” (4:104)
These verses give Muslims a great amount of courage to remain steadfast and patient in adversity, with full trust and conviction. Instead of worrying over what happened and continuing to grieve, look to the future and make amends.
THE MARTYRS ARE ALIVE
The Qur’an Shareef informs us that martyrs are alive and given sustenance by their Lord (3:169). The Hadith provides further merits of a martyr; “The martyr (shaheed) has seven blessings from Allah: he is forgiven from the moment his blood is first shed; he will be shown his place in Paradise ; he will be spared the trial of the grave; and he will be secure on the Day of Judgement; there will be placed on his head a crown of dignity, one ruby of which is better than this world and all that is in it; he will be married to 72 hoor ; and he will be permitted to intercede for seventy of his relatives.” (Tirmizi)
Whilst the picture to the physical eye is one of carnage, the picture in the real world is one of success, peace, victory and eternal bliss.
SUPPORT THE CAUSE OF JUSTICE
Occupation of the land, usurping property and murder of innocent people is a grave injustice. There is no hope any longer for the upholding of ‘International Law’, which clearly declares these acts as war crimes. The oppressors have crossed all lines of humanity in massacring the Palestinians, however, their resolve remains strong as ever and they are committed to sacrifice their lives for Islam.
We can join the struggle by:
Increase our Imaan through making regular Taubah, istighfaar, and fervent Dua for Allah’s help against the enemy.
Fulfilling our obligations to Allah, fulfilling our rights to all that have rights over us and to do everything to please Allah and avoid His displeasure.
Intensify our good deeds, worship, charity and better our character and fix our relationships.
Raise awareness about the plight of the oppressed using the media space effectively.
Avoid condemning others and being arm-chair critics. Support each other with wisdom, diplomacy and kindness.
