The article “Act as if you are infected,” Daily News, Monday, November 16, 2020, refers.
In the article, Dr Andrew Lee highlights the conundrum that many are faced with in taking precautions against being infected with Covid-19.
Perhaps the most significant is that “Around 20% of people who catch Covid-19 are thought to display no symptoms, and many more will only develop mild symptoms or show symptoms later in the course of their illness.”
In other words, all - particularly those who are in close proximity within family circles – must not let their guard down.
While there is positive outlook of the roll-out of vaccines and news that the UK has secured 5 million doses of a vaccine, poorer countries can ill-afford the acquisition of the vaccine.
Even if they could - many don’t have infrastructure in place for the vaccine to be administered effectively.
The best we can do is to take all precautionary measures absolutely seriously as any complacency will result in a dramatic increase of infections.
