Crime, killings, murder and especially mass murders are a very real phenomenon in South Africa.

Many citizens and communities are expressing that they are losing faith in the SAPS.

The National Police Minister Nathi Nhleko’s allusion that “those kind of ructions” are pre-1994 reinforces the need for enhanced law enforcement.

Mass murders - be it political or otherwise - are indicative of impunity on the part of perpetrators who believe that they will get away.

Rampant crime needs to be addressed with the contempt it deserves - on a daily basis - not only as and when tragic ‘heightened’ situations arise.

Our citizens need to implicitly believe that there is law enforcement and justice.
