In just one edition of the Daily News (Tuesday, 27 August 2013) the following appeared:
‘On duty cop films sex acts,’(front page headline) ‘Pupils plead guilty in school bullying case,’ ‘Health MEC sued for baby death,’ ’15 hurt in taxi smash,’ ‘Driver injured in service station shoot-out,’ ‘Two dead outside school,’ ‘ Six appear on dagga dealing charges,’ ‘Gautrain parking ‘chop shop,’ ‘Healing doctor accused of tricking woman out of R1m,’ ‘Phoenix family held after drug bust’.’
These are just a few of the hundreds of ills in our society.
What more can we say? What has really gone wrong? Where are we heading?
It seems that society is on a downward spiral and soon ethics, respect, human dignity, honour and other qualities will disappear and be overtaken by rampant corruption and crime.
Civil society needs to take a united stand against these issues and authorities must be seen to enforce the law and implement justice.
