A previous water distribution of 25 000 litres to households in Greytown had taken place on Sunday, 13 March 2016.
The ‘Operation H2O’ team – comprising Darul Ihsan staff members together with volunteers from Durban – left the Darul Ihsan Centre office at Sea Cow Lake in the early hours of the morning in a truck loaded with the bottled water and a convoy of vehicles to arrive timeously at the Greytown Mosque.
At the Mosque the relief team met by the local Imam and Aalim Moulana Yaseen Jeewa Saheb and many local community members who volunteered to assist in the water distribution drive. The relief team was also joined by Maulana Makda – a senior community member and Aalim of Greytown – and thereafter proceeded to the Acacia Park grounds for the distribution.
At the grounds the bottled water was distributed to many of the residents in the area who were most grateful by this gesture of Darul Ihsan Centre. The relief team also proceeded to the following institutions to distribute the bottled water :
1. Arcadia Home for the Aged
2. Greytown Correctional Services
3. Greytown TB Hospital
4. Greytown Hospital
5. Greytown AIDS Centre
6. Greytown Hostel
After the distribution the relief team reassembled at the Greytown Mosque where the resident Imam of Greytown Masjid Moulana Yaseen Jeewa expressed his heartfelt thanks to the team and also Darul Ihsan Centre for always remembering the people of Greytown.
Darul Ihsan Centre would like to place on record our sincere thanks to all volunteers for their assistance in these relief efforts.
The ‘Operation H2O’ bottled water distribution drive and other outreach initiatives of Darul Ihsan Centre are made possible through the generous and on-going contributions of the Muslim community.
