On Monday, 04 July 2016 the Darul Ihsan Centre Relief Department was informed by Mr Brett Goodwill of Ethekwini Disaster Management that a fire incident had taken place at the Joanna Road Informal Settlement (Sea Cow Lake) on Sunday, 03 July where about 95 shacks were razed to the ground affecting some 250 people - fortunately, with no fatalities or injuries.

Mr Goodwill’s urgent request was for meals to be provided on Tuesday for those who lost their shelter and provisions in the fire.

By mid-morning on Tuesday the Darul Ihsan Relief Team arrived at the Settlement with 250 containers of hot meals for distribution to all those affected by the fire.

The distribution of the meals was overseen by Mr Vincent Mpanza, the coordinator of the Settlement, who – together with Mr Goodwill – welcomed and sincerely thanked the Relief Team for the outreach.

All recipients of the meals – especially the children – were delighted and grateful for the meals provided by Darul Ihsan.
