On Saturday 02 July 2016 the Darul Ihsan Relief team received a call from the Head of Ethekweni Disaster Management, Mr Wilfred Mkhwanazi, informing the Centre of a fire incident that had taken place in the early hours of the morning at the Temple Road Informal Settlement in Sea Cow Lake, Durban – with a requisition for the provision of food assistance for the affected and distraught residents of the settlement.

The fire incident had completely razed 24 shacks, leaving about 130 people – both children and adults – without a dwelling or any means to nurture themselves. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.

On Sunday, 03 July 2016 the Darul Ihsan Relief team – together with volunteers – distributed hot meals to all affected residents of the settlement.

The Darul Ihsan Relief team facilitated the feeding through Mr Brett Goodwill and Mr Themba Mdalose of Ethekwini Disaster Management and the coordinator of the Informal Settlement, Mr Christopher Ngubane.

Members of Ethekwini Disaster Management, the coordinator and the affected residents of the settlement – particularly the children – expressed their heartfelt appreciation at Darul Ihsan Centre’s gesture.
