The Darul Ihsan Centre ‘Relief Team’ - in conjunction with assistance from volunteer members, Westville SAPS personnel and Westville community members - provided hot meals for over 500 residents (adults and children) at the settlement which borders the UKZN Westville campus.
Additionally, an assortment of toys were handed to about 100 children – many of whom are orphans living in a crèche at the settlement. Blankets were also handed to 15 senior lady residents of the settlement.
Sgt Stephen Clark, representing the Westville SAPS and other SAPS members distributed clothes and shoes – on behalf of the Westville SAPS - to over 200 adults.
The relief was facilitated through Miss Thembi Duze, the coordinator of the settlement.
Miss Duze, together with other residents of the settlement, expressed their extreme gratitude to Darul Ihsan Centre, the Westville SAPS and all volunteers for their outreach to the residents of the settlement during winter.
Sgt Stephen Clark, head of Social Crime Prevention, thanked the Darul Ihsan Relief Team and expressed his sincere appreciation at the goodwill of Darul Ihsan Centre in their outreach to the underprivileged.
