For the second year running the residents of Roshnee, Dadaville and Arcon Park contributed towards the distribution of blankets in the Vaal area. This year the community rallied strongly to provide 100 high quality blankets to be distributed amongst the elderly in Sharpeville.

The acquisition and distribution of the blankets was co-ordinated by the local Roshnee Islamic Services together with Darul Ihsan Centre on Youth Day (Tuesday, 16 June). The blanket distribution took place, significantly, at the historic Sharpeville Memorial Monument in conjunction with the Sedibeng District Municipality represented by the Executive Mayor, Councillor Mahole Simon Mofokeng, with other municipality members present.

Many contributing community members from Roshnee, Dadaville and Arcon Park were also present at the Sharpeville Memorial Monument on the day. Councillor Mofokeng was most thankful for the blanket distribution and impressed that the ‘residents of the donor communities will always be blessed due to their generosity.’

Darul Ihsan Centre’s annual ‘Sponsor-a-Blanket’ campaign - a project of the ‘Muslim Empowerment Fund’ (MEF) - has delivered thousands of blankets nationally to the less privileged in some of the coldest places in the country and more blanket distributions are set to follow in the Vaal area, Insha Allah. It is anticipated that close onto 10 000 blankets will be distributed by Darul Ihsan Centre throughout South Africa this winter.

The distribution of blankets amongst the needy are always met with much appreciation by the respective recipients. These outreach programmes are made possible by the contributions of all who support the Centre for the betterment of mankind and to seek the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala.
