Darul Ihsan Centre’s youth wing, ‘Youth of the Ummah’ (YOU) has been hosting educational and spiritual programmes project for Muslim boys for several years. Alhumdulillah, in 2013 a fresh initiative for Muslim teenage girls was launched under the banner ‘Daughters of the Ummah’ (DOU).
The project was initiated on many requests from the community who expressed a real need for such a programme for their daughters.
Consequently ‘DOU’ launched its first programme in December 2013.
On Saturday, 24 May 2014 ‘DOU’ hosted its second programme – ‘A Day of Learning and Recreation’ - an activity day of learning and recreation for girls at the NMJ Hall, Durban.
With ninety registered participants - between 12 and 20 years old – from Durban and surrounding areas participated in the programme. Twelve DOU volunteers co-ordinated and facilitated activities of the programme.
Various team-building exercises, group challenges and target-shooting (archery) programmes were convened in the days programme for the keen participants.
Mufti Zubair, the Ameer of Darul Ihsan Centre, held a ‘Q & A’ session and a practical demonstration on ‘How To Perform Wudu’ was given by one of the adult female coordinators.
Refreshments and lunch was provided and the programme ended at 4:00 pm.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the following comments from a few of them:
- ‘It was very lovely day, full of activities and I had a lot of fun’
- ‘This was an enjoyable and fantastic day’
- ‘Alhamdulillah, it was a wonderful experience and we gained a lot of knowledge and still had fun’
- ‘It really showed that we could enjoy ourselves within the boundaries of Sharia’
- ‘I can’t wait for the next programme’
A mother of one of the participants said, “May Allah Ta’ala reward you and your team for hosting this programme. My daughter had an enjoyable and an unforgettable experience which was most inspiring.”
‘DOU’ will continue to host programmes Insha Allah.
