On Wednesday, 29 January 2014 the Ixopo Muslim community, in conjunction with Darul Ihsan Centre, distributed 101 school bags to children at the school.
The Imam of the Ixopo Masjid, Maulana Mohammed Kolabhai, other brothers from the Muslim community, the principal Mr Mayeza and four staff members of the school were present during the distribution of the bags.
Darul Ihsan Centre - in its ‘Seeding Project’ campaign - also handed 28 packets of an assortment of seedlings to the principal for the schools vegetable garden.
The principal, an educator and some senior pupils maintain a vegetable garden at the school. Produce from the vegetable garden is used in feeding programmes for orphans and vulnerable children at the school. Excess produce is also given to indigent children at the school to take to their homes.
Mr Mayeza and staff members of the Mariathal School expressed their sincere appreciation to the Ixopo Muslim community and Darul Ihsan Centre for their gesture.
Working with the Ixopo coordinator, Brother Ebrahim Mansoor, Darul Ihsan Centre has - through its outreach programmes over the years - sponsored stationery packs and bags for many children at schools in the Ixopo region.
