Shaykh Muhiyudeen Awwamah, the son of well-known Madina-based scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Awwamah (Hafizahullah) intiated the idea of this unique conference which was hosted for the first time in Turkey. The conference held form 16 to 21 January in Azaadville , South Africa was the second conference of its kind organised by Sheykh Muhiyudeen that incorporated the Imam Nanotwi International Award.
Ulama, Scholars and delegates numbering over 150 from some 80 countries participated in the programme which ldiscussed and deliberated key global issues affectting the Ummah and the contribution and legacy of various scholars that have rendered great service to the preservation and propagation of Islam.
At the conference, Moulana Muhammad Salim, the son of Qari Muhammad Tayob, the former rector of Darul Uloom Deoband, was conferred the Imam Nanotwi Award for his service to Deen.
Key institues that participated inthe programme were, Madrasah Arabia Islamia, South African National Halaal Authority, Darul Ihsan Centre South Africa,Madrasah Noor for the Blind, Madrasah Taleemuddeen - Isipingo Beach, Muslim Judicial Council, Madrasah In’amiyyah - Camperdown and the Jamiatul Ulama South Africa.
