Darul Ihsan Centre, in its continuing ‘2013 Winter Warmth Campaign,’ distributed blankets to residents of the eKhanana Old Age Home in Umlazi on Thursday, 01 August 2013. Spokesperson Sister Zakiya-Kikia-Khan, a teacher at the Reunion Secondary School expressed her gratitude on behalf of the elderly folk, “Shukran for your generosity towards the senior citizens of eKhanana Old Age Home. The tears of joy flowed profusely when I explained who Darul Ihsan is and highlighted some of the out-reach work your organisation does. It was sad to witness how tightly the elderly men and women clutched onto their blankets as though afraid to let them out of their sight.”
She further said, “They were overwhelmed when it was announced that they would also receive a hot meal, courtesy of your organisation.”
The old age home is situated in the ‘W’ section of Umlazi and is registered with the Department of Social Welfare. The home caters for the aged, the mentally retarded, those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and even the physically challenged.
Darul Ihsan handed 120 blankets to the elderly and provided a hot and hearty meal for all the residents of the home, the staff and some of the scholars of the Reunion Secondary School.
Pastor Victor - who is based at the home - and all the senior residents were overwhelmed by the gesture and expressed their deep appreciation and sincere gratitude at the generosity of Darul Ihsan Centre.
