The focus of the seminar was ‘The Shariah perspective VS the Secular perspective’ on the drawing up of wills.
Presenters included Farouk Vahed, Zain Fakroodeen, Aslam Mayat and Mufti Ebrahim Backus.
Mufti Backus is currently a consultant in the Darul Ihsan Centre’s Fatwa Department and the ‘Muslim Marriages Tribunal’ (MMT).
In his presentation Mufti Backus discussed the Shariah perspective that outlined the basic laws and guidelines of drawing up a will. Other aspects discussed included the importance of drawing up a will in a non-Muslim country and the areas of conflict between the two perspectives.
The interactive nature of the programme was well received with many questions posed. The attendees were appreciative of the presentation and many said that they were enriched with information on Shariah requirements in the drawing-up of wills.
The essence of the presentation was on how to ‘Draw up a will within the periphery of Shariah.’
Darul Ihsan Centre is planning to hold a conference on ‘Drawing up an Islamic Will’ in the near future, Insha Allah.
