This year, the Darul Ihsan Centre - in its on-going educational initiative to the community - presented several programmes in various Masajid/Mosques on the importance of Qurbani
The programmes were held in October and were conducted by respected Ulama of Durban. The programmes were well received and appreciated by the congregation. In the programme the various significance and virtues of Qurbani and important rulings were explained followed by a 'Question and Answer' session.
The programmes, which are held annually, were conducted in Pietermaritzburg, Stanger, Shakaskraal, Umzinto, Port Shepstone, Phoenix, Merewent, Asherville, Overport, Westville and surrounding areas.
Discussions centred on the virtues of Qurbani/Udhiyya, the method of sacrifice and slaughtering, the distribution of the meat, etc. and also stressed on the warning to those who intentionally ignored their obligation to Qurbani despite having the means.
A brochure explaining basic rulings on Qurbani was distributed to enhance the quality of the programme and interaction from participants. The programmes were well-attended and proved beneficial to the participants.

‘Udhiyya’ is an Arabic word meaning "blood sacrifice," and ‘Qurbani’ is an Urdu word derived from the Arabic word "Qurban" which literally means an act performed to seek Allah Ta’ala’s pleasure. It is technically used for the sacrifice of an animal slaughtered for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.
