Hosted at the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre in Sea Cow Lake, Durban, the event opened with a short Qirat, including the English translation for attendees to read and follow along. After a friendly introduction to the team and programme, members listed ten important characteristics that all present should adopt as Muslimahs. These included mindfulness of Allah, modesty, and good manners, amongst many others.

The team motivated the young Muslimahs to adopt these qualities to become better versions of themselves, while also using stories and lessons from Islamic history to inspire them.

After a short Dua, attendees then moved to their work stations; each one provided a blank canvas bag, various paint colours, pencils, and brushes. An assortment of stencils with beautiful Arabic words and other artistic designs were also provided to stimulate their creative sides.

With the help of the accommodating and friendly DOU team, attendees were thrilled to produce beautifully-painted bags, all the while fostering the spirit of sisterhood as they helped those around them.

Refreshments followed soon after, allowing the youth to socialise with one another.

“It was nice!” remarked several attendees.

“This was interesting,” said another. “I really enjoyed it. And the painting was awesome.”
