The Etiquette of listening to a Deeni Discourse

Participate in a Deeni discourse with the correct intention. The purpose of participating in a Deeni discourse is reformation and to acquire knowledge.

Consider the discourse as a means of spiritual medication and consider the message to be for oneself.

Sit with utmost respect during the discourse. Avoid leaning against the wall while the lecture is being delivered, unless one needs to due to health reasons.

Listen attentively to the speaker. Whilst the discourse is in progress, do not engage in any other activity e.g. looking at others, playing with the cell-phone, speaking to someone, fidgeting, etc.

Whilst the discourse is being delivered, remain focused towards the speaker. Do not engage in any other ibadat like performing Salah, reciting the Qur'an, etc.

Endeavour to sit close to the speaker. Sitting close to the speaker will assist one to focus better.

If unclear about any aspect discussed during the discourse, then respectfully enquire from the speaker after the talk.

If one has to leave the gathering during the talk, do so in a manner that will not disturb or distract others.

When the blessed name of Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is mentioned, then it is wajib (compulsory) for one to recite durood upon Nabi r. Thereafter, whenever the blessed name of Nabi r is taken, it is Mustahab (preferable) to recite durood.

Make an effort of imparting what was learnt to one’s family as well as others.
