Al Baqiyatus Salihat

Q: What is meant by ‘everlasting good deeds’ (a translation of Al-Baqiyat Al-Salihat)?

A: There are different interpretations given by exegetes. According to Ibn Abbas (Radiyallahu Anhuma) and others Al Baqiyatus Salihat refers to the five daily Salah. Another opinion of Ibn Abbas (Radiyallahu Anhuma) is that it refers to every type of good action, be it a physical action or a verbal utterance, which will remain and help a person in the Hereafter (Akhirah).

Others have mentioned that it refers to the Zikr (remembrance) of Allah, be it Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), Tahleel (La Ilaha Illallah), Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), Tasbeeh (Subhanallah) or La Hawla Wa La Quwata Illa Billah.

Some Ulama have mentioned that it refers to daughters for parents. It is mentioned that daughters are a means of great Thawab (reward) for their parents.
