Boycotting in Islam

Q: Does our Shariah allow boycotting of products of a company or country for political reasons ? The products could be halaal suitable.

A: Boycotting products and companies that are assisting and adding towards an unjust cause is a strategy that can be used to good effect if executed properly. Such a strategy is encouraged and is an effective weapon in the current situation where the Ummah is generally unable to combat physically. However, this is something which is a permissible medium and should not be enforced upon anyone, nor should anyone who does not boycott products or stores be condescended or held accountable. Importantly, Muslims should ‘boycott’ the lifestyle of our enemies and forsake sins and vice and inculcate the lifestyle of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) and the pious predecessors.

And Allah Knows Best
