After weeks of severe weather and flooding across the Western Cape, the province’s newly-appointed Cabinet has endorsed the declaration of a provincial disaster.
This will allow for the allocation of additional resources to affected areas.
Alan Winde; Premier of the Western Cape; stated, “We have one month in which to produce the costing document, although we’re still waiting on areas for the water to subside to get a real indication of which bridges and roads still need repair… There are NGOs, volunteers, as well as all of our officials, be they firefighters, disaster management, traffic police, mitigating the risks of this disaster.”
