SAUDI ARABIA: South Africa was on Wednesday (8 September 2021) removed from Saudi Arabia’s list of countries with travel restrictions, meaning that Umrah travel can now be done without quarantine subject to certain criteria.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Argentina were also part of a three-country list released by the Kingdom.
The ban was originally imposed to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“The decision to review the list of banned countries was due to continuous monitoring of the epidemiological situation locally and globally,” the Saudi Interior Ministry said.
Several countries remain on Saudi Arabia’s banned list.
In order for South Africans to benefit from the travel relaxations, however, they need to be fully vaccinated with the full course of either Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, or the Johnson & Johnson jab.
They will also need to have their status verified through the Tawakkalna mobile app.
