KwaZulu-Natal: A new health train facility has been hard at work to try and ease the difficulty of Durban’s older residents over the past few weeks.
Known as the Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train, the high-tech 19-coach operation runs as a mobile healthcare facility that provides primary healthcare services.
Its carries 20 resident staff members and the most modern medical equipment.
The train spent nine days at the Phoenix Railway Station, with its staff attending to more than 100 people per day. According to KZN social mobiliser, Avasha Gopaulsingh, the response was so overwhelming that some had to be turned away due to social distancing protocol.
The Phelophepa has now left Durban and is currently based in Pietermaritzburg.
