Major Citrus Export Deal With India Sees Breakthrough

This agreement is in line with South Africa reducing its reliance on Europe; which accounts for roughly 36% of citrus exports; and broadening the citrus market to countries such as China and India. According to Agriculture Minister Willie Aucamp, India’s population of around 1.47 billion people and its fast-growing economy presents “significant potential for South African citrus exports”.

While Spain is the world’s largest citrus fruit exporter, South Africa ranks second, with the country’s citrus accounting for 95% of the industry’s annual revenue. Within the agricultural sector, citrus is one of South Africa’s most valuable exports.
