Name: Ubay bin Ka'b
Title: Abul Munzir, Abut Tufail, Sayyidul Ansar, Sayyidul Muslimeen
He belonged to the Khazraj tribe of the Ansaar. He was among those who pledged allegiance at the second Bay'ah of Aqabah. He was among those who used to record the Wahy (revelation) for Rasulullah r. He was among the six Sahabah y who memorized the Quran in the lifetime of Rasulullah r. He was among the Fuqaha who would issue Fatwa during the lifetime of Rasulullah r. He was the best reciter of the Quran of the Sahabah. Rasulullah r called him Abul Munzir and Hazrat Umar t called him Abut Tufail. Rasulullah r called him Sayyidul Ansar (Leader of the Ansar) and Hazrat Umar t called him Sayyidul Muslimeen (Leader of the Muslims). He passed away in Madinah Munawwarah in 19 A.H.
Virtues
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (R) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to Hazrat Ubay bin Ka'b (R), “Verily Allah has commanded me that I recite to you Lam Yakunillazi Kafaroo… (Surah Bayyinah). Hazrat Ubayy (R) asked, “Did Allah mention me by name?” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied, “Yes.” Hazrat Ubay (R) began to cry (out of joy).” (Muslim, Tirmizi)
Hazrat Ubay bin Ka'b (R) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once asked him, “O Abul Munzir! Do you know which verse of the Quran is the greatest?” I replied, “Allah and His Rasool know best.” He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) repeated the question. I then replied, “Allahu La Ilha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyum (Ayatul Kursi)”. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) then struck my chest and said, “Congratulations on your knowledge O Abul Munzir” (Muslim)
