2008 to see three Hijri years
Dubai: The Gregorian year 2008 will see three Hijri years, Arabic daily Al Khaleej said quoting Jordanian Astronomical Society on Sunday.
The last nine days of Dhu Al Hijja 1428 will fall in the first days of January 2008, and then to be followed by the Hijri year of 1429, the society said in a statement.
The last days of December 2008 will see the start of the Hijri year 1430.
This means that year 2008 will see the end of 1428, the complete year of 1429 and the beginning of 1430, the society explained in its statement.
Having three Hijri years in a Gregorian year happens once every 33 years, which means 2041 will have three lunar years.

Salaat with Jama'ah
Hazrath Anas bin Malik (R.A.) narrates that he heard the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saying: “A person who in all sincerity is constant in his salaah with jama’ah for forty days, without missing the first takbeer, receives two awards: one for deliverance from Hell and the other for freedom from nifaaq.”
Hazrath Sahl bin Sa’d (R.A.) narrates that he heard the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saying: “Give glad tidings to those who go to the Musjid frequently during hours of darkness, for they will have perfect light on the Day of Judgement.”
WARNING AGAINST DISCARDING JAMA’AH
Hazrath Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that he heard the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saying: “I wish I could ask the boys to collect a huge quantity of firewood for me and then I would go around and set fire to the dwellings of those who say their salaah at their own houses without any excuse.” (Sahih Muslim)
In another narration it is reported that somebody asked Ibn Abbas (R.A.): “What about a person who keeps fast all day and offers nafl salaah all night, but does not go to the musjid for jama’ah and Jumu’ah?” He is doomed to Hell,” replied Hazrath Ibn Abbas (R.A.). (Tirmizi)

Signs of Allah
Have we ever looked up at the sky on a starlit night and wondered at the magnificent creation of Allah Ta’ala that appear like little flickering lights? We are often fascinated with some computer, cell phone or other invention of modern times. Yet the vast creation of Allah Ta’ala which we witness day and night are beckoning us to ponder over them and recognise the Being that has created them and us. When we truly recognise the power of Allah Ta’ala, we will submit to Him totally.
REMEMBERANCE OF ALLAH TA’ALA
In the Qur’an one of the Surahs (chapters) is titled “An-Najm,” which means “The Star.” In this Surah Allah Ta’ala even takes an oath upon the star, which is an indication of the significance of this creation. Thus we should ponder over this astonishing creation and thereby recognise Allah Ta’ala, the Creator. Hereunder are some details about stars which modern science has discovered. However it must be remembered that science has not even scratched the surface. Allah Ta’ala’s creation is far beyond what science will ever discover. Furthermore, science is rooted in the wonder of the creation itself and does not progress beyond that. Such observance of these great signs and discovering their wonders is futile. A Mu’min, however, recognises His Creator by these signs. Hence he becomes more engrossed in the rememberance of Allah Ta’ala. Now when he takes the name of Allah Ta’ala, the grandeur and magnificience of his Creator is embedded even more firmly in his heart. Thus there exists a world of difference between a Mu’min and a mere scientist in the observance of these great signs.
BILLIONS OF STARS
“A star is a huge ball of glowing gas in the sky. The sun is a star. It is the only star close enough to the earth to look like a ball. The other billions of stars are so far away that they appear to be no more than pinpoints of light — even through powerful telescopes.
There are more than 200 billion billion (200, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000) stars. Suppose that everyone in the world were to count the stars, each person could count more than 50 billion of them without the same star being counted twice.
SPACE BETWEEN EARTH AND SUN
In spite of their appearance, stars are enormous objects. The sun is only a medium-sized star, but its diameter is more than 100 times the diameter of the earth. The largest stars would more than fill the space between the earth and the sun. Such stars have a diameter that is about 1000 times as large as the sun’s. The smallest stars are smaller than the earth.
We can hardly imagine the great size of some stars. But even large stars look like tiny dots because they are so far away.
The nearest star — other than the sun — is more than 25 million million miles (40 million million kilometers) away. The fastest jet would take a million years to fly that far. But even this great distance is only one-billionth the distance to the farthest stars.
The surface temperature varies from about 50,000°F. (28,000°C) on blue stars to about 5000°F. (2800°C) on red stars. The interior temperature is more than 2,000,000°F. (1,100,000°C).” (World Book)

Islam and Sport
Harms of Modern Sport
1. Crowd Behaviour and Hooliganism
A feature which characterizes most modern sporting events is the contribution of the crowd or audience. The crowd due to its close physical contacts and large numbers, provides an ideal setting for the spontaneous accumulation of excitement. Each individual in the crowd may be overcome by a sense of euphoria due to crowd emotion.
The crowd momentarily sanctions the performance of acts which are normally forbidden in everyday life. Individuals in the crowd instantaneously become members of a group in which normal standards of conduct are redefined or overthrown. In simple words, members of a crowd act as one man, but the crowd acts as no one man would act in his normal senses. For example, the average person does not ordinarily destroy property or interfere with moving traffic, but in a victory celebration he does.
Crowd behaviour is characterized by a number of distinctive features. Firstly, a crowd is anonymous and erases feelings of self-consciousness. A typical modern sporting audience involves thousands of people, some male, some female, some drunk, some semi-naked, some singing, some screaming, and some simply watching the action. This multi-faceted setting may also destroy any sense of individual responsibility. The individual, while part of the crowd, indulges in behaviour which he would normally control, because moral responsibility has been shifted from himself to the crowd as a whole.(1) There is a decrease in the level of personal accountability because the individual's responses are covered up by the responses of the many others around him.
Secondly, there is a removal of inhibitions. This is why crowd violence at sporting functions may not only cause fatalities, but also damage to property and general uncivilised behaviour. For example, on 5th May 1990, during a soccer match in Bournemourth, Leeds fans ran amok. Over 100 arrests were made not only for assault but looting and rioting as well.
Thirdly, the crowd is typified by a sense of increased suggestibility. This can be defined as a tendency to respond to stimulus in an uncritical fashion and without rational control over the nature of the response. In simple words, in a crowd, one does things without conscious reflection and thought regarding the effects of such behaviour.
Experts believe that intoxicants (eg. drugs and alcohol) and rhythmical sounds like the beating of drums can put a crowd into a state of increased suggestibility. The analysis of a sporting audience shows that alcohol, drugs and some form of rhythm are combined in variable proportions. Rhythm is generated by synchronized clapping, dancing, waving of scarves, flags, music and songs.
An important implication of crowd behaviour is the emotional interaction. The individual's responses are affected by the responses of those around him.(2) His actions and emotions become reinforced as he observes the actions and emotions of others. This means that the individual may approve and even engage in acts such as violence, vulgar language, dancing, etc. This kind of behaviour should never be tolerated from society, least of all from a Muslim.
Members of a crowd stimulate and respond to one another. This increases their emotional intensity and responsiveness. This process is increased by "rhythm" and "milling". The crowd may suddenly start rhythmic clapping and shouting which may take members to higher levels of excitement.(3) These features are all too common in sporting audiences. Is this not the explanation for the frequent occurrence of the 'Mexican wave'?
A common stance taken by many Muslims is that they simply attend sporting events to watch and that they are not affected by the crowd in any way. This claim can easily be disputed. If you find yourself moving to the rhythm of the 'Mexican Wave' or being attracted to the stadium for a sporting event in order to enjoy the 'wonderful atmosphere', you have been affected by crowd psychology to some extent.
Let us examine each element of crowd behaviour from an Islamic point of view. Firstly, a Muslim individual must maintain a sense of responsibility at all times. Each and every Muslim is accountable for his or her own actions. Hence, how can a Muslim allow this responsibility and accountability, which Islam has put on him, to be transferred to a larger group who lack all sense of morality?
Secondly, a Muslim should at all times conduct himself in a critical and thoughtful manner. He should always be rational in his actions. Hence, how can a Muslim consciously enter into a situation which threatens this rationality of thought and deed which Allâh (Azza wa jall) has blessed him with?
Thirdly, a person in a crowd is affected by those around him. Here we see the beauty of Islam, in that we as Muslims are encouraged to be in the company of the pious and virtuous. Can a Muslim, in the name of sport, ever justify being in the company of those who are drunk, semi-naked and those who lack all sense of dignity, morality and decency? Never!

2. Hero Worship
Celebrities or 'sporting - heroes' are created by means of media glamour and prestige. Unfortunately, the supporting of teams and sporting personalities have the greatest impact on our children. It is interesting to note the extent to which today's youngsters (as well as adults) imitate their sporting heroes. From wearing the Manchester United top to applying Allan Donald's "war paint" to copying the bowling technique of Waqar Yunus.
This "worshipping" of sports stars is a matter of serious concern. Muslims will prefer to dress in the colours of their favourite soccer team, rather than dressing in Islamic attire. Muslim children and even adults are familiar with the names, statistics and histories of numerous sports performers. They are always prepared to defend their heroes if even a word is said against them. One wonders if these very people will defend Islam with the same enthusiasm as they defend their sporting heroes.
Elite competition often produces athletes who value success more than the concept of being righteous or competing fairly. High - profile athletes are accepted as winners and ideal role models, despite the fact that these athletes very often defy the rules of fair play to increase their chances of winning. What impression is given to youngsters who idolize a sportsman who uses drugs illegally? 'That cheating in life is O.K, if you want success?'
Sporting heroes who may range from atheists to homosexuals become our role models. On the field, many sports stars are often seen using vulgar language or being rude and arrogant. Off the field, their personal lives may be harbouring in sin. Unless we guide our innocent children, they may well end up believing that these un-Islamic principles are meant to be followed.
Nabi (Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam) has said: "One will be with whom one loves." In other words, on the Day of Qiyamat, things of a like nature will be together. Hence, this Hadith serves as a warning to those who wish to follow, imitate and be-have like the non-Muslims.
It is indeed unfortunate to note that Muslim parents have allowed their children to idolize sporting heroes while totally ignoring the contributions made by the great leaders, saints, martyrs and scholars of Islam. The Holy Prophet (Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam) should be our perfect guide and example. Leaders like the four Caliphs (Radiallâhu anhum), the Sahaba (Radiallâhu anhum) and our pious predecessors showed far superior qualities than any of our current socalled "heroes". These great Islamic personalities had characters which were moulded from piety, honesty, righteousness, sacrifice, etc. These are our guides and teachers, not cheap sporting "heroes" who roam in the darkness of sin and who fall prey to lowly desires of lust, fame and pride.

3. "Desensitization" of Islamic Principles
The viewer or spectator while watching television is constantly bombarded with images of semi - naked women, of alcohol consumption in victory celebrations, of vulgar language, of violence and aggression and other activities which are completely prohibited by Islam. The continued exposure to these kind of images may reduce the individual's emotional sensitivity to them.
To illustrate, consider a person who has never been exposed to such Harâm things before and who subsequently experiences them. His initial response would be one of shock and disgust. By constantly being exposed to these activities, this may weaken his inhibitions. A mild effect will be that he would consider them as being normal or simply acceptable behaviour. More seriously, he could feel less restrained about performing such actions himself.
A factor which adds to this desensitization, is the fact that people watching sport for pleasure are generally in a relaxed state of mind. A state in which one is 'off guard', where one's inhibitions are lowered and when one is least suspecting. In other words, these images gain access to our inner being at a time when we least expect them to.
If the desensitization of Islamic values is occurring amongst adults, what effect is it having upon our Muslim children? It is the responsibility of parents to see that the home is a place where Islamic principles are taught and where un-Islamic norms are discouraged.

4. Conditioning
The conditioning of the mind through sport is a channel used to control the way people think and behave. If you consider this form of hypnosis through sport to be far-fetched, think of the occasions on which people have been gripped by the hysteria of a major sporting event (eg. Soccer World Cup 1998). Consider the number of Muslims who prefer to watch cricket or soccer during Salâh times. Consider those who dream about sports while performing Salâh. However much we try to deny it, we have allowed sports to control and manipulate our behaviour.
Muslims should not allow sport to exert any form of control over our lives. The only sort of conditioning that we should permit is one which encourages the Islamic code of life. In other words, our lives should be controlled and directed according to Islamic values and ideals. We should be cautious about being influenced by any ideologies which aim to indoctrinate us with principles which threaten our Islamic belief system.

5. Fanaticism
A fanatic can be defined as a person who rejects facts, who strives to impose his beliefs upon others and who considers all other beliefs to be corrupt. He considers opposition as hateful and his enthusiasm may easily translate into violence.
Unfortunately, media publicity, broadcasting and a host of other factors have been largely responsible for transforming audiences into "sport - thirsty" fanatics. Sporting fanaticism has succeeded in breeding groups of people who "eat, drink and sleep" sport.
The intense competition and partisanship which is generated may often lead to spectator aggression. This has often given rise to physical violence which has occurred as a direct result of radical sports fanaticism. History shows many examples of tragedies in which people have been killed due to irrational fanatic behaviour. For example, the murder of Andres Escobar, a Colombian soccer player, after he scored an own goal during the 1994 World Cup finals.(5)
Islam can never condone fanaticism as defined above. We as Muslims should respect the rights of all people. We should never attempt to force or impose our views upon others. Hence, sports fanaticism which encourages radicalism and lack of reason is not sanctioned in Islam.

6. Intermingling of Sexes
Physical intermingling and free mixing of men and women occurs almost without any remorse or guilt at most sporting functions. The following Hadith prohibits such behaviour:
"It is better for one of you to be pricked in the head with an iron pick than to touch a woman whom it is unlawful to touch."
7. Singing, Dancing, Music, etc.
The light-hearted atmosphere at sporting events is augmented with rhythmic singing, clapping, dancing or similar gestures. Islam does not permit any such activities especially if these have indecent, obscene and shameless undertones.
The opening ceremonies of all major sporting events are primarily based on music and dancing. For example, the opening ceremony of the 1988 Seoul Olympics featured thousands of dancers and gymnasts and the Barcelona Games in 1992 featured world famous opera singers. Scantily dressed females are used as mascots, allowing billions of people around the world to commit Zina of the eyes.
Sporting functions also seem to attract the shameless elements of society, in the form of streakers. These are people who prefer to dash around naked in public, exposing shameful parts of the body. This animal-like instinct is not only disgusting but an insult to human dignity. What is more shocking is that intelligent, educated adults find this amusing and a pleasure to watch. This is a symptom of a morally bankrupt society. May Allâh (Azza wa jall) save us and our children from being exposed to such filth.
Top
8. Wastage of Money
Enormous sums of money are wasted by sports organisations, clubs, provinces and even countries in an attempt to entertain the public through the medium of sport. Governments of the world spend millions in sports development and promotion. It is also interesting to note that the 1984 Olympics were the first in which a profit was made. The 1976 Montreal Olympics had a $1 billion debt(6) after spending $1.4 billion to stage the Games.(7)
On an individual level, people spend hundreds and even thousands in attending sporting functions, purchasing tickets and joining fan clubs. For example, the price of a good ticket for the Opening Ceremony of the Atlanta Olympics was about $600.
Allâh (Azza wa jall) says in the Holy Qurân: "O children of Adam, wear your beautiful apparel at every place of worship, and eat and drink but do not be wasteful; indeed, He does not like the wasteful.(40)
Are we not being wasteful, while millions of people on the face of the Earth have no food to eat and no place to sleep? Should we not be using our resources to build hospitals and houses, rather than stadiums? The construction of the 85 000 seater Atlanta Centennial Olympic Stadium, for instance, amounted to $168 million. Can't we channel the billions that are directed towards sports in the world today, towards eradicating the social harms of our society, like drugs and crime?
Top
9. Division
Sport, due to its competitive nature, divides people into groups. The love for opposing teams or sports stars is so intense that it divides nations, provinces, communities and even families. This division due to sport has frequently led to disputes, quarrels and even violence amongst supporters. The favouring of one team or star over another can often be traced to early childhood. This makes the idea of supporting a team or personality all the more absurd. This division creates unnecessary hatred, jealousy and malice which would otherwise never have been present.
Sport has always been an area where people have been discriminated against. Differences based on race, nationality, religion and class have on many occasions been intensified and magnified by sport.
Unfortunately, we as Muslims have foolishly allowed the folly of sport to divide and cause rifts between us as well. It is not uncommon for groups of Muslims to harbour hatred and jealousy for others on the grounds of sporting differences.
Top
10. Smoking in Children
The effects of watching sport on television are more devastating and far-reaching than people generally imagine. For example, a survey was carried out in England to investigate whether watching cigarette-sponsored motor racing had any effect on children's smoking habits. The study found that of those boys who were not regular smokers but who watched motor racing as a favourite television sport, 12.8% became regular smokers. Of those who did not like motor racing only 7% became regular smokers.(41) In other words, by watching motor racing, the probability of becoming a regular smoker is almost doubled.

Time to Reflect
Global warming has played havoc with weather patterns and brought about climate change throughout the world. Winters have become severe with bitter cold, excessive snowfalls and stormy conditions. Similarly, summers have become intensely hot with dryer, warmer and scorching conditions.
Countries the world over have been lashed by natural disasters in recent times. The deluge in many parts of Africa and most recently in neighbouring Mozambique and Zambia has caused untold misery.
It is time to seriously reflect; open our minds and hearts to the catastrophic destruction that poses an imminent danger to mankind. Reflect on our actions that have a direct effect on the prevailing conditions. Reflect on the evil and sin perpetrated by us and the transgression of the laws of Allah Ta’aala and disobedience to Allah Ta'aala – this invites the wrath and anger of our Rabb, the Most Powerful and Most Merciful.
Together with our duas, we need to bring a change in our lives and constantly remind ourselves of our final abode – the Hereafter.
Who was the first man to write with a pen ?
Allah has praised Idrees(alaiyhis salaam) - Enoch, describing him as being a prophet and truthful. He is mentioned in the Qur'an:"Verily! He was a man of truth (and) a prophet. We raised him to a high station. (Ch 19:56-57 Quran).
Idrees(peace be upon him) -Enoch was born and raised in Babylon following the teachings and religion of Prophet Adam (pbuh) and his son Sheeth (pbuh). Idrees(peace be upon him) was the 5th generation of the Prophet Adam(pbuh). He was the contemporary of Aadam(pbuh) for 308 years and was the first to be made a prophet after him and Prophet Sheeth(pbuh).
He called the people back to his forefathers religion, but only a few listened to him, while the majority turned away. Prophet Idrees(peace be upon him) and his followers left Babylon for Egypt. There he carried on his mission, calling people to what is just and fair, teaching them certain prayers and instructing them to fast on certain days and to give a portion of their wealth to the poor.
It is reported that he was the 1st to invent the basic form of writing. Ibn Ishaq has mentioned that he was the first man to write with a pen.
Some of his wise sayings are:
*
Happy is he who looks at his own deeds and appoints them as pleaders to his Lord.
*
None can show better gratitude for Allah's favors than he who shares them with others.
*
Do not envy people for what they have as they will only enjoy it for a short while.
*
He who indulges in excess will not benefit from it.
*
The real joy of life is to have wisdom.

Haraam Livelihood
When haraam is consumed then the result is that the person loses interest in the worship of Allah Ta’ala, and an inclination towards evil and sin becomes apparent. This Haraam consumption deprives the acceptance of the most worthy and highest form of worship. Similarly the Deen of such a person is refuted even though it is done with the greatest amount of humility. Whichever part of the body the Haraam has touched and settled upon, then that part will be punished.
Oh, Ummat-e-Muslimah! Ponder and give deep thought to our present situation where so little attention is given to earning Halaal and abstaining from Haraam. Riba and interest have driven so many individuals and families to Haraam earnings. The taking and giving of bribes, fraud and corruption, etc. have become the order of the day. Gambling and corruption have become just another business to make extra money and become wealthy. Illegal business transactions have become a common practice. Taking of loans and not paying back has become a cancerous disease. Another evil of our society is usurping the wealth of others, especially in inheritance. And the list goes on.
On a more serious note people who are considered pious and seem actually religious have been suspected in defaulting, especially in money matters. Therefore it is non-negotiable for a Muslim to earn and consume Haraam.
The first person who benefits from an act of charity is the benefactor himself! By seeing changes in himself and in his manners, by finding peace, by watching a smile form on the lips of another person. If you find yourself to be in difficulty or distress, show kindness to others, and you will be the first to find solace and comfort. Give to the needy, defend the oppressed, help those in distress, and visit the sick: you will find that happiness surrounds you from all directions.
An act of charity is like perfume --- it benefits the user, the seller, and the buyer. Furthermore, the psychological benefits that one receives from helping others are indeed great. If you suffer from depression, an act of charity will have a more potent effect on your sickness than will the best available medicine.
Even when you smile upon meeting others, you are giving charity. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: "Do not dismiss certain acts of kindness by deeming them to be insignificant, even if (such an act) is to meet your brother with a smiling face (for that is a deed which might weigh heavily in your scale of deeds)."
On the other hand, when you frown upon meeting others, you are displaying a sign of enmity, an act that is so detrimental to brotherhood that only Allah knows the full extent of its evil effects. The Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam informed us that the prostitute who once gave a handful of water to a dog was rewarded for that deed with Paradise, which is as wide as the heavens and the eat1h. This is because the Giver of rewards is Forgiving, Rich, and worthy of Praise.
0h you, who are threatened by misery, fear and grief! Occupy yourself in the betterment of others. Help others in different ways - through charity, hospitality, sympathy, and support. And in doing so, you will find all of the happiness that you desire.
He who spends his "wealth for increase in self-purification, and has in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return; except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High. He surely will be pleased when he enters Paradise]. (Qur'an 92: 18-2/)

Our Environment
The countless bounties placed by Allah Ta'ala in this world have been purposefully made for the use and service of the creation of Allah Ta'ala. Invariably Allah Ta’ala is the owner of everything while we, as human beings, have been made trustees to care and manage the conservation of the environment. It is a religious duty to conserve and protect our environment as stated in the Noble Quran saying:
“And do not cause corruption in the earth, when it has been set in order.” [Al A'raaf 7:56]
A stern warning has been made to those who waste, exploit, abuse, misuse, destroy and pollute the natural resources and the environment. The Noble Quran states:
“And do good as Allah Ta'ala has been good to you. And do not seek to cause corruption in the Earth. Allah Ta'ala does not love the corrupters.” [Al Qasas 27:77]
“Eat and drink, but waste not by excess for verily Allah Ta'ala does not love the wasters.”
[Al A'raaf 7:31]
Let us briefly discuss a few of these bounties:
Water
Water is the basis and origin of life. The Noble Quran says:
“And we have made from water every living being.” [Al Anbiya 21:30]
One cannot overemphasize the needs and functions of water as it plays a vital role in the perpetuation of life and the development of this world. It is therefore fundamental and obligatory to preserve the continuation of life by means of preserving and saving water as we very well know that only one percent of the world's water is fresh, ninety seven percent is saltish in the seas and two percent frozen.
Extravagance in using water and its pollution is forbidden in Islam. Once a Sahaabi was performing Wudhu for Salaah and Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: “What is this wastage, Oh Sa'd?” “Is there wastage in even washing for Salaah?” asked Sa'ad. Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) replied: “Yes, even if you are by a flowing river!”
Air
The air we breathe is no less important than water for the perpetuation and preservation of life. Since our very existence is directly dependent on the air we breathe, it is incumbent upon us to prevent air pollution through the massive emission of gases that is having a direct effect on global warming, which has led to what is called the “greenhouse effect”.
Land and Soil
Like air and water, the land and soil (forests, etc) are essential for the perpetuation of life on this planet. Nabi (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) has mentioned: “The world is green and beautiful and Allah Ta'ala has appointed you as his steward over it. He sees how you acquit yourself.”
After all the land is our temporary home and in order to survive, we grow vegetables which we, human beings, and animals equally depend upon. Therefore it’s essential that we protect and safeguard the very source through which we acquire our sustenance and livelihood.
Plants and Animals
Again one cannot deny nor emphasize the importance of plants and animals. Each species and variety is unique for the continuation of life on this earth. Plants are of immense value to the eco-system. They enrich the soil, prevent soil erosion, provide oxygen, and have various other uses (e.g. medicine), etc.
The Noble Quran elucidates:
“Then let man consider his nourishment: that we pour down the rain in showers, and we split the earth in fragments, and therein made the grain to grow and vines and herbs and olives and palms and gardens of dense foliage and fruits and fodder – provision for you and your cattle.”
Regularly animals provide sustenance for plants: their dung enriches the soil and they contribute to the atmosphere by respiration as well as they provide mankind with leather, hair, wool and conveyance, etc.
A Month of Blessings and Happiness
BABAR R CHAUDHRY
Arrahman-Arraheem.com
Rabi-ul-Awwal is a month of blessings, respect and happiness for us all as the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) was born in this month.
At the time of the birth of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) mankind was ignorant and confused about their existence and purpose of life. They were desperately searching for solutions and answers to their social, moral and family problems and looking for stability and the right path in life – a life free from tensions, stress and difficulties. And above all, they were seeking to understand and know their Creator. And because of this ignorance had started worshipping idols (physical and spiritual), and made their own religions and ways of living. In all this confusion the Almighty Allah (swt) responded to mankind’s restlessness and anxiety by sending Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) as Rehmatulil-alameen (Mercy for the entire mankind) and Siraj-e-Muneer (Bright Light) to guide mankind away from darkness, ignorance, idol worship and Shirk (association of others with the Almighty). The Prophet (pbuh) introduced the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe; answered the questions; provided solutions to problems of daily life; and showed the right path – the Deen (judgment, decision) in order to get His mercy and blessings. This was a great favour of the Almighty on the entire mankind, which we must all remain thankful. In Surah Aal-Imran 3 Ayat 164 of the Quran, Allah (swt) mentions the responsibility of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as: ‘Certainly Allah conferred a great favour upon the believers that He raised among them a Rasool (Messenger) from among themselves, reciting to them His Revelations and purifying them, and teaching them the Book and the wisdom, although before that they were surely in manifest error’.
The Almighty send down many Prophets for the guidance of mankind to leave in Peace and Brotherhood. In a Hadith (saying) the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) said, ‘My example and the example of all those Prophets who have passed before me (Abraham, Moses, Jesus etc) is like someone constructs a very beautiful palace but leaves place for a brick in one corner. People who visit this palace wonder why this brick was not placed’. The Prophet (pbuh) said, ‘I am that last brick’. Meaning that the Deen (judgment, decision) was completed on the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) and he was Khatamun-Nabiyeen (last of the Prophets). Almighty Allah’s Judgment, Decision (Deen) is available to us in the form of His Book, the Holy Quran.
When we talk about blessings we normally associate it to being well-off and living a good quality of life, our children growing up well, getting a good job, getting promotions etc. But if we take Almighty Allah, His Messenger and His teachings as a blessing of this world, then we can experience a lot of goodness in our lives which includes virtue, bounties, mercy, rewards, abundance, stability in relationships, higher character and personality, purity, confidence, prosperity in business, contentment and peace of mind. Not only this, but every believing man and woman can get the companionship of the Prophet (pbuh) as the Quran describes his life and character as the ‘Best-Model’ for all those who believe in the Almighty and the Hereafter and those who engage in His remembrance (33:21). One of the Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) says, ‘Surely I have been sent as a messenger so as to achieve a high quality of conduct and character’.
The two very clear benefits promised by Almighty Allah for those who are true believers are removal of ills and improving of the condition (physical, financial, emotional etc), as mentioned in Surah Muhammad 47 Ayat 2: ‘And those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the Revelation sent down to Muhammad - for it is the Truth from their Lord,- He will remove from them their ills and improve their condition’. So if we want to experience Peace (Islam) in our lives, in our homes and in our society then we have to follow the character which was demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and shall remain an example for the mankind for all times to come which includes tolerance, patience, forgiveness, mercy, love, respect for others while remaining steadfast in actions and deeds.
No education can be fruitful until it is balanced. Our psyche is balanced when we display good conduct and character. So in this holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, let us pledge we shall try to be better and balanced individuals and human beings. That we shall understand the instructions of the Almighty Allah as revealed to us through His Book and His Messenger in order to remove the darknesses which we may carry inside us and enlighten our lives, our families, our homes and the society around us so that we can call prosper and life in Peace and Universal Brotherhood. The month of Rabi-ul-Awwal gives us another opportunity to be happy and rejoice at the Blessing which our Creator has bestowed on us. #

The Messenger of Peace
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)
The 12th of Rabi ul Awwal marks the birth date of the holy messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh). Muslims everywhere ought to remember this day. This occasion is not for frivolity or pleasure seeking, but an event of inner joy and happiness. Assemblies and conferences are held throughout the Muslim world to narrate the stories of the Prophet’s birth, childhood and his preaching, his character, his sufferings and his forgiveness of even his enemies, and about his leadership, his triumphs through Allah’s mercy over the hearts of men.
Almighty Allah ensures that we should not go astray in our journey through life. He has given us a conscience enabling us to differentiate between what is right and wrong. But whenever man has failed to listen to his conscience or was deaf to the silent message emanating from every object of God’s creation, he sent his prophets to bring the truth and to see that these God-sent messages should not be incomprehensible to the people of many different lands, they were communicated to them in their own language.
Poised between Africa, Asia and Europe, the Arabian peninsula lay at the very heart of the ancient world. There were three major towns, Yathrib, a large oasis now called Madinah, Taif, a cool refuge in the mountains famous for its grapes and Makkah which lay in a barren valley and it was here that Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) was born. His father Abdullah ibn Abdul Mutallib died two months before the birth of the Prophet and he was only six years when his mother Aminah also passed away. For two years, he was cared by his grandfather Abdul Mutallib and when he too died, the Prophet’s uncle, Abu Talib became his guardian. A leader of men, the Prophet’s noble character was undisputed, yet when in his 40th year, he announced his prophetic mission which was bestowed on him by Almighty Allah, the people of his own hometown Makkah poured scorn on his claim to prophethood. “Look at this village boy who reckons he is in contact with the heavens,” they would say. But the Prophet remained undeterred and continued with his mission for 23 years, the first 13 years in Makkah and 10 years in Madinah. In this short time, he brought about a revolution among the Arab tribes, the like of which the world had never seen before.
Man of peace
The Prophet’s principle was to avoid any material conflict coming between himself and those to whom he was addressing his teachings. No matter what price had to be paid, he would let no worldy rivalry come in between himself and his congregation. One outstanding example of this policy was the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. By constantly waging war against the Muslims, the Quraish tribe had made Muslims and non-Muslims into two separate parties eternally at loggerheads with one another. Both sides were spending all their time preparing for war. In this Treaty, the Prophet accepts all demands of the Quraish in return for a ten-year truce. The terms of the Treaty were so one-sided that many Muslims considered it a humilation, but in reality it paved the way for what the Quran called a “clear victory.”
This Treaty put an end to the animosity between the Muslims and the non-Muslims. Muslims could freely communicate the teachings of their faith to non-Muslims who in turn were free to accept them. No worldy rivalry or prejudice stood in the way of dissemination of faith. The Prophet’s most important task was to bring peace to the world and so he urged people to accept the fact that regardless of skin, colour, language, lifestyle or dwelling place, they were all brothers and sisters. The Prophet himself led the way with his kindness, humility and good humour.
Enjoining the best status on women
Feminism has become something of a craze in the world today with women agitating for equality of sexes. But it should be remembered that it was the Prophet who bestowed the best status on women with his very first injunction touching the respect due to women especially mothers: “ Paradise lies at the feet of your mother,” says the Prophet.
The revelation
The Quran was revealed to the holy Prophet as the final and complete Book of God for the benefit of humanity. The world at the advent of Prophet Muhammad was a lost world, a veritable sea of sin. In the words of the Quran, “ On land and sea, moral degradation had settled.” When the evil became universal, it was necessary to adopt a universal cure. The Quran says, “ Today your religion was made complete and perfect,” which means that the religion which was initiated by God at the beginning of the world became complete on his sending the Quran through Prophet Muhammad. In 610 A D, when the Prophet was alone in the cave where he often took refuge to reflect in solitude, the angel of God, Gibraeel (AS) appeared before him and taught him the words that appear as the first verse of the 96th chapter of the Quran-” Read in the Name of your Lord who has created all that exists.”.
Special envoy to the world
God had entrusted the Prophet with the responsibility of preaching His message to the world as a special envoy. The truth revealed to the Prophet was that this world did not spring up by itself, but was created by Allah who continues to watch over it. All men are His servants and responsible to Him for their actions. Death is not the end of man’s life, rather it is the beginning of another permanent world where the good will enjoy the bliss of paradise and the wicked will be cast into a raging hell. The teaching of the Prophet killed the narrow outlook of nationalism by making all, whether Indian, Arab, Turk, Englishman or African equal and one before God. The Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah where millions of worshippers from all over the world gather every year is the best example of harmonious international relations.
The Prophet's Advice to His Daughter
Ali, the son of Abu Talib, related how Fatimah, his wife and also daughter of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh), had to do all the housework herself. Her hands used to become blistered from working a millstone, her clothes became dirty from sweeping the floor and she had a mark on the neck from having to bring water from outside in a large leather bag. On one occasion, when the Prophet had many servants come to him, Ali suggested to Fatimah that she go and request her father to give her one of them. But there were many people gathered at his house, so she returned home without meeting him. The next day the Prophet came to the house of Ali and Fatimah and asked what she wanted to discuss, but Fatimah remained silent. Then Ali told the Prophet the whole story. The Prophet did not however say yes to their request. “ Fear God,” he said, and fulfill your duty to the Lord. Continue to do your housework and when you go to bed at night, glorify Allah 33 times, praise Him the same number of times and exalt Him 34 times. That makes 100 times altogether. That will do you more good than a servant will.”
A brave and simple man
In his article entitled “Bravery’, the renowned Hindi writer Sardar Pooran Singh called Prophet Muhammad the “bravest man in history”. In his own words, “ to strive every moment, every hour towards making oneself greater and greater is bravery. Cowards say ‘raise the sword’, while the brave say,’ bring you head forward.’ With God’s choice of Prophet Muhammad, the Prophethood was given historical credibility. This meant that no more prophets had to come to the world in the future. But it was not merely a matter of divine proclamation. Certain conditions had to be fulfilled before this could happen. Firstly God’s commandments relating to every walk of human life had to be revealed. This was duly accomplished as the Quran states, “ It is He who has revealed the Quran for you fully explained.” Secondly a perfect pattern had to be presented before mankind. Prophet Muhammad provided mankind with such a good example and this condition was fulfilled. Thirdly there had to be arrangement for the permanent preservation of the Quran. This task Almighty Allah took upon Himself: “ It was We who revealed the Quran and We will certainly preserve it.” Prophet Muhammad’s life went through various stages of well-being and extreme hardship, yet never once did he stray from the path of moderation. At all times, he remained humble bringing his message of peace and tolerance to mankind.
Paving the way to democracy
In pre-Islamic times, religious institutions had become debased by the veneration of mere mortals, whereas the Prophet approved of no other form of religion, but that based on the worship of the immortal God. Religious beliefs had been founded on superstition, but by the Prophet, they were established on the foundation of reality. It was he who taught people to conquer nature instead of worshipping it, thus paving the way for the scientific era. And where political power had been in the hands of one hereditary monarch, he showed the way to governance by the people.
Systematic approach towards reforms
The Prophet’s exemplary conduct is a perfect example for mankind. He never sought revenge for any wrong done to him. Only if the divine commandments had been broken, would he mete out retribution for the sake of God. It was this conduct on the part of the Prophet which made him respected in the eyes of his enemies too. An important aspect of the Prophet’s public mission was a realistic step-by-step approach to everything he did. He was always careful to introduce social reforms gradually
What others say about
Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh)
“ When I closed the second volume of Prophet Muhammad’s biography, I was sorry that there was not more for me to read of the great life. Prophet Muhammad is the best of one, who holds today undisputed sway over the hearts of millions of mankind.” Mahatma Gandhi
“My choice of Muhammad (Pbuh) to lead the list of the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful in both the religiousand secular levels. Of humble origins, Muhammad (Pbuh), founded and promulgated one of the world’s great religion and became an immensely effective political leader. Today 13 centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive.”
Micheal Hart (The 100: A Ranking of the most influential persons in history, New York, 1978).
‘Muhammad (Pbuh) is the most successful of all prophets and religious personalities.” The Encylopaedia Britannica
After much study of the man, I am convinced that if a man like Muhammad (Pbuh) would undertake leadership of the new world, he would succeed in solving its problems and secure that peace and prosperity which all men want.” Bernard Shaw
Knowledge as Your Friend
“ Acquire knowledge,” the Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) used to tell his followers. “Seeking knowledge is the duty of every Muslim. It will enable you to be your own friend in the desert, it will be your mainstay in solitude, your companion in loneliness, your guide to happiness, your sustainer in misery, your adornment when you are amongst people and your arrow against your enemies. Whoever goes out in search of knowledge is on the path of Allah until returning.” Another of the Prophet’s sayings was that if anyone went on his way in search of knowledge, God would make it easy for him to find the way to Paradise.

True Love for Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]
Allah Ta’ala declares, “There certainly is an excellent example in Allah's messenger for he who fears Allah and the last day and remembers Allah abundantly” (al-Ahzaab 21)
Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said, “He who holds firm to my Sunnah when corruption is rampant in my Ummah will attain the reward of a hundred martyrs.” (al-Bayhaqi fi Zuhd; Hidaayatur ruwaat vol.1 pg.136 Hadith174)
Sayyiduna Anas [radhiallaahu anhu] reports that Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] advised, “Whoever cherishes my Sunnah, indeed he cherishes me and whoever loves me will be with me in Jannah.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi Hadith2678; Ibid)
The above and other such verses and Ahaadith are frequently heard and recited during the blessed days of the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the month in which the birth and demise of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] occurred. Huge gatherings are held, sentiments are elevated and hearts become soft upon hearing the details of these events. Resolutions of adhering to the sunnah are made and the love for Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] is increased.
As Muslims, we believe that every Sunnah of our beloved Prophet [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] is filled with noor (divine light) and blessings of Allah Ta'ala. Therefore, the illustrious Sahaaba [radhiallaahu anhum] and Muhadditheen [ra] took great pains in preserving the noble Ahaadith and Sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]. And through their sacrifices Allah Ta’ala has facilitated a huge amount of literature in which the blessed Sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] is preserved upto this day for the Ummati (follower) of the 15th century of Islam to adopt. But alas! How pitiful is the condition of that lover of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] who resolved to adopt more Sunnats of his beloved the previous year, but failed in his duty thus far?
One who discards the Sunnah is warned severely by Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] with the words, ‘I curse him, Allah curses him and so does every Prophet of Allah [alayhis salaam].’ (Mustadrak al-Haakim vol.1 pg.36; Hidaayatur ruwaat, Hadith105). This clearly highlights the cause of most of the social mishaps prevalent in the Muslim community of today. How can the blessings and mercy of Allah be found in that home whose inhabitants abandon the sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]?
Rabi-ul-Awwal has dawned once again, this time for the 1479th time since the birth of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]. During this long period, there were many who took such resolutions and stuck by them thereby attaining the virtues promised by Allah and his Messenger r as well as the success of both the worlds.
There is no certainty as to how many more Rabi-ul-Awwal's we will witness. Hence, let not the procrastination of Shaytaan dominate us. Seek the assistance of Allah sincerely for the strength to adopt every Sunnah of our beloved Master [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] before it is too late.Note: The Sunnah of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] is not restricted to acts or places of worship only. Instead, it is comprehensive and covers all aspects and situations of life such as one’s social and moral conduct, business dealings, his dressing, etc. It also applies to all places whether the Musjid, business place, the home or even while one is on a journey to any far off land. In every situation, one should draw guidance from the lifestyle of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] thereby turning habits into acts of worship.
Some books that cover many of the Sunnats that pertain to the above are ‘Sunnats’ by Mufti Ebrahim Salejee Saheb, published by Husainiyah Publications, Estcourt and ‘Islamic Aadaab’ by Mufti Aashiq-ilaahi Saheb [ra], published by Darun-Nashril Islaamiyah, Redhill. Such books are a must for every home.
EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF RASULULLAH [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] THAT OCCURRED DURING THE MONTH OF RABI-UL-AWWAL AND LESSONS DERIVED THEREFROM
1. Birth of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] (al-Tuhfatu Lateefah vol.1 pg.7)
=> When we realize that Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] was born an orphan, our sentiments should then be
directed to the many orphans and orphanages around us. We should even consider personally raising orphans as great virtues have been mentioned regarding this.
2. Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] was bestowed with Prophethood in the cave of Hiraa while he was in solitude (Ibid vol.1 pg.9)
=> By spending time in solitude, pondering over the greatness and the creation of Allah, one is elevated in the court of Allah. Allah Ta’ala has described such people in the Qur’aan as ‘those of intelligence’.
3. The first few verses of the Qur’aan were revealed (opening verses of Surah Iqra) (Ibid; Zadul Ma’ad)
=> In these verses, Allah Ta’ala reminds man of the fact that it is through knowledge that he raised the rank of man, and our source of knowledge is Allah Ta’ala and His Rasul [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam].
4. Hijrah (migration) from Makkah Mukarramah to Madinatul Munawwarah (Ibid vol.1 pg.14)
=> The basis for the spread of Islam lies in struggle and sacrifice for the sake of the Deen of Islam.
=>Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘A real Muhaajir (one who migrates) is he who migrates from (abandons) sins.’ (Sahih Bukhari)
5. Upon reaching Qubaa (outside Madinah), Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] without delay built the first Musjid of Islam
=> A Muslim’s priority is the Musjid wherever he may be.
=> Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] has stated that Allah Ta’ala will grant the shade of His throne to that person whose heart is attached to the Musjid. (Sahih Bukhari)
6. Demise of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] (Ibid vol.1 pg.17)
=> Within the short span of 23 years, Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] had displayed a lifestyle sufficient for the guidance of man till the end of time.
=> Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] said that there is no greater calamity for a Muslim than my demise. (Shamail Hadith348)
Therefore, if one is afflicted with any calamity, he should ponder over the calamity of the loss of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] which would lighten the burden of the present adversity. (Sunan ibn Majah Hadith1599)

The honourable Muslim Woman
More and more Muslim women are entering the Miss Pageant Beauty competitions. Our young daughters and sisters are influenced by lucrative offers and in the hope of becoming a “somebody” obviously having to reveal one's shape and body for public viewing.
Increasingly Muslim women are taking prominent positions and adventurous steps in this fast-moving world. Largely attitudes have changed to trends of modernization. More and more Muslim women are abandoning the precincts of the household and opt to venture outdoors. Proudly our womenfolk are stepping in the pathways of Shaitaan. Gyms, for walks and jogs, modelling, pageants to mention a few are opening the doors of fitna wider for generations to come.
The Haraam associated to the Miss Beauty contest is catastrophic - unleashing a tirade of unislamic activities. Apart from losing the true dignity and honour of a Muslim Woman, the hereafter is compromised for a few moments of joy and worldly fame.
Releasing Grudges From Your Heart
How do you feel today? I think this is one of the most frequently asked questions and one of the least correctly answered. How many times have you been asked this question and in reality you feel awful! You feel like your world is caving in. You feel like your spiritual battery is almost flat and that you are on your hands and knees struggling through each day of your life. Yet, despite all this, you answer, "Oh me? I'm fine." What a lie!
So what does all this tell us? Well, first people are not always honest with each other. We do not always open up and say what is on our minds, but yet we keep up the nice manners, politeness, and all that to keep our relations OK with those around us. But the second and more important point is that we live with the state of our own hearts. And that state is the very foundation onto which our being is built. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told us about the importance of the heart:
That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which not many people know. Thus he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honour, but he who falls into doubtful matters falls into that which is unlawful, like the shepherd who pastures around a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Truly every king has a sanctuary, and truly Allah's sanctuary is His prohibitions. Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh which, if it be whole, all the body is whole and which, if it be diseased, all of it is diseased. Truly it is the heart. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Having a healthy heart is the basis of enjoying good health in body and mind. There are many diseases that are triggered from having a stressful mind and a troubled heart. Having a peaceful mind is one of the most sought-after things in life and very few people get it. People might search for peace and tranquility in a bottle of alcohol or in drugs of addiction that, at best, provide a quick transient moment of pleasure and relief but which plunge the person back to reality after the affects wear off. All such attempts at gaining peace end in frustration because real peace lies deep within the heart. Peace is found in a place known only to you and your Creator. It is a place that is free of shirk meaning that you worship only Allah the Almighty. It is free of pride meaning you realize your smallness in the vastness of creation. It is free of corruption meaning you live a life of piety. It is free of hate meaning you hold no grudges and forgive easily.
For many people the last one is the hardest to achieve. Why? Is it because we live in a world where we are continually being hurt and misused by others? Difficulty and hardship are the nature of this worldly life. We all hurt and are hurt. The problem is when we forget the sins that our own hands and tongues have sent forward and, instead, focus on what others have done and said to hurt us.
When we nurture wounds remembering harsh words that were spoken and continually recalling painful events our sense of injustice is ignited, our anger flares, the healing of our inner wounds is slowed down, and the whole body and mind is put under great stress. So it is important to release grudges from the heart so as to not allow the heart to foster negative feelings towards others. But how can this be done, especially when people really do say and do hurtful and harmful things to each other?
We must realize from deep within our hearts that Satan is our open enemy and that he loves to sow discord, division, and bad feelings and grudges between people. Do not let him win! He waits in ambush for mankind, waiting for us to be in our weakest moment and then whammy! His helpers from among humankind say and do things to hurt us. He wants to damage our hearts because he realizes their importance in our eternal success.
So take the first step to keep your heart free of spiritual disease and adopt a forgiving nature like that of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Allah the Almighty says: [Kind words and forgiving of faults are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Rich and He is Most Forbearing] (Al-Baqarah 2:263).

Path to Salvation
Muslim, Christian, Jew, idol-worshipper or atheist — every single person is united in the belief that death is inevitable. Death itself is not an end. Rather, it is a bridge to the next life, the eternal life of the Hereafter. The life of the Hereafter is simply a matter of either heaven or hell. Every person will eventually find his permanent abode in either one of these places. The question is: Who will gain salvation by means of his entry to Jannah (paradise) and who will be doomed to Allah Ta’ala’s wrath and punishment?
ALLAH TA’ALA’S CREATION
In order to understand this matter in its proper perspective, it is first necessary to consider some basic realities. Allah Ta’ala, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, with His power granted every human being the gift of life. He created and fashioned this human being in the most fascinating manner. In the dark factory of the womb Allah Ta’ala granted him hands and feet, those dainty eyes and ears, that little heart, his brain and intellect and all the limbs and organs of his body. Before he is even ushered into this world, Allah Ta’ala creates the sustenance for this miraculous creation in the bosom of his mother. Finally he comes into this world. He comes gasping for breath. He requires air to breathe. Allah Ta’ala provided air for him free of charge. He needs water desperately to live. Allah Ta’ala poured down the water for him from the skies. He needed vegetation for himself and for the animals that he would slaughter for food. From the hard ground Allah Ta’ala brought out the vegetation he required. Thus Allah Ta’ala provided all his needs for him.
He then sent His noble Messengers (alaihimus salaam) to guide man. Finally His last and final Messenger, Sayyidina Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was sent as a guide for all mankind till the last day. Upon this final Messenger Allah Ta’ala revealed His last book — the Glorious Qur’an, the eternal miracle. Allah Ta’ala has thus commanded all mankind through His final Messenger and His Qur’an that the only path to salvation is the path of Islam.
HIGH TREASON
Among the very basic fundamentals of Islam is to believe in the oneness of Allah Ta’ala and not to ascribe any partners to Him, to believe in and accept the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala, Sayyidina Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), as being the last and final Prophet and to believe and accept the Qur’an as the last book of Allah Ta’ala. Rejection of any of these fundamentals, among others, renders a person out of the pale of Islam. Such a person is committing the worst treason against his Creator, the One who gave him life, who gave him the air to breathe, who granted him his mind and intellect and every other gift.. Such a person, according to the promise of Allah Ta’ala, will never enter Jannah. And Allah Ta’ala does not contradict His promise. All his actions, in the face of the worst form of treason (kufr) that he commits, pale into total insignificance. Hence Allah Ta’ala declares: “And he who rejects Imaan his actions are destroyed. And in the Hereafter he is from among the losers” (5:5). Imaan is the soul of any action. Take away the Imaan and it is merely a lifeless form. However, Allah Ta’ala, only out of His grace, will compensate a disbeliever for his good deeds, such as charity, caring for people, etc. in this world. Anas bin Malik (R.A.) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Verily when a disbeliever does a good action, Allah Ta’ala grants him something in lieu of it in this world” (Sahih Muslim). As for salvation in the Hereafter, Imaan is a pre-requisite.
ONLY ISLAM
The Qur’an clearly proclaims that the only religion acceptable to Allah Ta’ala is Islam. Allah Ta’ala says: “Verily the only religion in the sight of Allah (Ta’ala) is Islam” [3:19]. Another verse proclaims: “And whosoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers” [3:85].
DISBELIEF
Disbelief (kufr) in terms of the Qur’an and Hadith is to reject any fundamental aspect of Deen. Rejecting a single verse of the Qur’an is disbelief. Addressing the disbelievers Allah Ta'ala says: “Do you believe in part of the book and commit kufr (disbelief) with part of it? And what is the recompense for the one who does that except disgrace in the wordly life, and on the day of Judgment they will be returned to the severest punishment” [2:85]. Rejecting the Messenger of Allah Ta’ala is also kufr. Allah Ta’ala declares: “Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers and they intend to differentiate between Allah Ta’ala and His Rasul and they say ‘we believe in some and disbelieve in some’ and they intend to tread a path between that (belief and disbelief). They are the disbelievers in reality” [4:150,151].
SOME DISBELIEVERS
The Qur’an, in spite of having explained the principles of Imaan and kufr, spells out certain types of disbelief. Hence Allah Ta’ala says: “Verily, those people have committed kufr who claim that Allah is Maseeh (Eesa alaihis salaam) the son of Maryam” [5:72]. Similarly, Allah Ta’ala says: Verily, those have committed kufr who claim that Allah Ta’ala is the third of the three (the trinity)” [5:73]. Likewise, Rasulullah (sallallhu alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said: “By him in whose hand is the life of Muhammad, no person who hears of me, be he a Jew or a Christrian, and then dies without believing in that with which I was sent (the Qur’an and Hadith) except that he will be from among the dwellers of the fire” (Sahih Muslim).
END-RESULT OF KUFR
Allah Ta’ala says: “Verily, those who commit kufr and die while they are disbelievers, even the earth filled of gold will never be accepted from them if they gave it in compensation (to be saved from hell)” [3:91] Another verse states: “Verily, those who commit kufr and falsify our verses, they are the people of the fire. They will dwell therein forever” [2:39]. And Allah Ta’ala also declares: “Verily, Allah Ta’ala has cursed the kaafireen (disbelievers) and prepared for them a blazing fire. They will dwell therein forever” [33:64].
Thus the Qur’an clearly spells it out. Salvation is dependent upon Imaan (belief) in the Oneness of Allah Ta’ala, the apostleship of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), Imaan upon every word and letter of the Qur’an and upon all the other fundamentals of Deen. The one who rejects any fundamental aspect of Deen rejects Allah Ta’ala. He rejects his Creator and Sustainer. He commits the highest form of treason. Such a person, according to the promise of Allah Ta’ala, will never gain salvation.
May Allah Ta’ala grant hidayat to one and all. Aameen.

Cupping Is The Best Of Remedies
Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam ) said, “Indeed the best of remedies you have is cupping…” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5371)].
Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam ) said, “If there was something excellent to be used as a remedy then it is cupping.” [Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawud (3857), Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3476)].
The Angels Recommending Cupping
Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam ) said, “I did not pass by an angel from the angels on the night journey except that they all said to me: upon you is cupping, O Muhammad.” [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3477)].
In the narration reported by Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allaah be pleased with him) the angels said, “Oh Muhammad, order your Ummah (nation) with cupping.” [Saheeh Sunan Tirmidhee (3479)].
