Hazrat Ali Al Murtadha (Radiyallahu Anhu)

Hazrat Ali is the paternal cousin and son-in-law of Rasulullah SAW, married to Hazrat Fatimah (Radiyallahu Anha). He was born approximately 10 years before Nubuwwat and he accepted Islam in its early stages at the age of ten. He was the first child to accept Islam. Some of his titles were ‘Al Murtadha’ (the accepted and beloved on by Allah) and ‘Abu Turab’ (father of the soil) - given to him by Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). He became the fourth Khalifah after the demise of Hazrat Uthman (Radiyallahu Anhu) and ruled for approximately 5 years until he was martyred on 17 Ramadan 40 A.H. at the age of 63 and was buried in Kufa.

The night before the conquest of Khaibar, Rasulullah SAW said to the Sahabah, “Tomorrow I will give the flag to a person on whose hands Allah will grant us victory, a person who loves Allah and His Rasul and Allah and His Rasul love him.” The next day Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) handed the flag to Hazrat Ali (Radiyallahu Anhu). (Muslim)

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates that (after Hijrah, on coming to Madinah) Rasulullah SAW initiated mu-aakha (pairing or brotherhood) between the Sahabah (Radiyallahu Anhum). Hazrat Ali (Radiyallahu Anhu) came to him (sad and in grief), tears rolling down his eyes. He said, “You have created mu-aakha between all your Sahabah but you have not paired me up with anyone.” Rasulullah SAWsaid, “You are my brother in this world and the next.” (Tirmizi)
