Sports facilities in ruin

The front-page article “Sports facilities in ruin,” Daily News Monday, 10 July 2017 refers.

Like libraries, sports centres and facilities are essential requisites for our society in the light of ‘a sound mind and a sound body.’

It is indeed alarming that “community sports fields around eThekwini are lying in ruins.”

Perhaps the culprit is public apathy and our lifestyles of physical inactivity.

According to the website of the ‘Heart and Stroke Foundation’ (HSF) “South Africa has the highest overweight and obesity rate in sub-Saharan Africa.”
Communities, community leaders, local authorities, municipalities and government need to work together and activate local, provincial and national campaigns and strategies reviving sports facilities and encouraging the populace to partake in healthy, physical lifestyle activities promoting good health.
