Xenophobic Violence

Dear Editor

The outbreak of violence directed at foreign nationals - especially in and around Durban - is one of deep concern and real alarm.

Our constitution guarantees the right to life and basic human rights for all within our borders.

All active government initiatives to protect foreigners, prevent violence and restore stability are welcomed and must be supported by NGOs and civil society.

Democratic South Africa is seen as a refuge for many Africans on the continent who suffer strife in their respective countries.
