Special Outreach in Rural Kwa-Zulu Natal

Rural indigenous women play a crucial role in agriculture, food farming and nutrition as they struggle through their daily lives. Many rural women suffer from a lack of access to technology and markets to improve their work and personal life. Despite their difficulties many of these rural women are breadwinners for their families, especially in the rural Umkhanyakude District in Jozini.

Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre’s Relief Team - in conjunction with the Spousal Office of the KZN Premier – attended a community programme held in the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality, Umkhanyakude District in Jozini. About a hundred farmers, most of them women, where assisted with agricultural boots and blankets.

The days’ activities began with Mrs N.G. Zikalala - the spouse of the KZN Premier - and other dignitaries in full support by attending the Women Co-operative Group’s formal programme at the Esicabazini Skhemelele Hall. In Mrs Zikalala’s keynote address she stated her commitment to assisting and improving the skills of women farmers in the area.

The Relief Team in conjunction with the Spousal office of the Premier, distributed the agricultural boots and blankets to the women. Mrs Zikalala expressed her appreciation to the Relief Team.

These outreaches are made possible through the generous contributions and ongoing support of the Muslim community.
