The Relief Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre, in the spirit of the theme of Mandela Day 2019 of ‘alleviating poverty,’ distributed 250 blankets and provided hot-packed meals and bottled water for 350 people at the Westrich ground at Newlands West, Durban on Thursday, 18 July 2019.
Most of the recipients of the blankets were seniors and pensioners from the greater Newlands West area. Councillor Ms Gugu Zulu of Ward 37 and her team of assistants co-ordinated and set-up a tent for the presentation. Sisters from the North Beach Women’s Volunteer Group contributed towards the presentation of the blankets, meals and water and personally assisted by handing over the blankets and meals to those present.
On the same day 120 blankets were also distributed to senior citizens in Avoca with meals and bottled water provided for two hundred people who attended the presentation. The presentation was facilitated and co-ordinated by Ward Councillor Ms Phindile Ndlela and her assistants.
Much appreciation was expressed by the recipients – especially for the blankets - to members of the Relief Team and especially to the women from the North Beach Women’s Volunteer Group.
These outreaches are made possible through the generous contributions and ongoing support of the Muslim community.
