How to perform Janazah Salah (Hanafi Mazhab)

The Imam will stand directly in line of the chest of the deceased

The intention for Janazah Salah will be made as follows: I intend offering the Janazah Salah for the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala and as a dua for the deceased behind the Imam

The hands will then be raised up to the ears followed by saying the Takbeer

Thereafter the hands will be tied below the navel as done in normal Salah

The Thana will then be recited

The Takbeer will be said for the second time without raising the hands

Durood-e-Ebrahim will be recited – this is the same durood that is recited in Salah

The Takbeer will be said for the third time without raising the hands

Thereafter the dua for the deceased will be recited. If the deceased is an adult then following dua will be recited:

اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا وَصَغِيْرِنَا وَكَبِيْرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَاُنْثَانَا اَللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ اَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَاَحْيِهِ عَلَى الْاِسْلاَمِ وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الْاِيْمَانِ

Translation: O Allah! Forgive our living and dead, present and absent, young and old, men and women. O Allah! Whoever amongst us is kept alive by You, keep him alive on Islam and whoever You give death to, grant him death on Iman.

If the deceased is an immature boy, the following dua should be recited:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطًا وَّاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا اَجْرًا وَّذُخْرًا وَّاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعًا وَّمُشَفَّعًا

Translation: O Allah! Make him a source of happiness for us, make him a means of reward and a treasure for us, make him an intercessor for us and accept his intercession.

If the deceased is an immature girl, the same dua should be recited with the following changes:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا لَنَا فَرَطًا وَّاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا اَجْرًا وَّذُخْرًا وَّاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا شَافِعَةً وَّمُشَفَّعَةً

Translation: O Allah! Make her a source of happiness for us, make her a means of reward and a treasure for us, make her an intercessor for us and accept her intercession.

Once this dua has been recited, the Takbeer will be said for the fourth time without raising the hands. After this Takbeer, salaam should be made as it is made for any other Salah to complete the Janazah Salah.
