He was born approximately 10 years before Nubuwwat and he accepted Islam in its early stages at the age of ten.
He was the first child to accept Islam.
Some of his titles were ‘Al Murtadha’ (the accepted and beloved on by Allah) and ‘Abu Turab’ (father of the soil) - given to him by Rasulullah r.
He became the fourth Khalifah after the demise of Hazrat Uthman (R) and ruled for approximately 5 years until he was martyred on 17 Ramadan 40 A.H. at the age of 63 and was buried in Kufa.
The night before the conquest of Khaibar, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said to the Sahabah, “Tomorrow I will give the flag to a person on whose hands Allah will grant us victory, a person who loves Allah and His Rasul and Allah and His Rasul love him.” The next day Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) handed the flag to Hazrat Ali t. Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (R) narrates that (after Hijrah, on coming to Madinah) Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) initiated mu-aakha (pairing or brotherhood) between the Sahabah y. Hazrat Ali (R) came to him (sad and in grief), tears rolling down his eyes. He said, “You have created mu-aakha between all your Sahabah but you have not paired me up with anyone.” Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “You are my brother in this world and the next.” (Tirmizi)
