A: Salah is the most important injunction in the life of a Muslim and should not be forsaken under any circumstances. Salah is the very first thing that will be accounted for on the Day of Qiyamah. To perform Salah whilst standing and facing the Qiblah whilst in an aircraft is generally accomplished with ease, with the permission of the stewards and giving due consideration to other activities on the flight.
Ideally one should perform the Salah at a time and place when there will be least inconvenience caused to crew and other passengers. Avoid performing the Salah at a time and place that will hinder the service of the crew and the safety rules of the flight. However, if one adopts all measures to perform the Salah in the proper manner and is prevented from doing so, then one should perform the Salah on the seat. Upon landing one should repeat the Salah performed on the seat.
In the unfortunate instance where Salah was completely missed whilst on journey, the Qadha (redemption) for such a Salah will be made in Qasr (according to the shortened version as missed on journey). One should sincerely repent and make Istighfar for not performing the Salah at its stipulated time and preferably discharge some charity.
And Allah Knows Best
