Getting married to a non-Muslim boy

Q: My husband's cousin is getting married to a non-Muslim boy. The Nikah will be performed a week before the non-Muslim ceremony. I would like to know if it is permissible to attend the non-Muslim ceremony to support her, from the girl's side, as she does not have many family members.

A: May Allah Ta'ala protect and guide us all. Islam does not recognize the marriage of a Muslim girl to a non-Muslim. Such a union is unlawful, prohibited and adulterous. Muslims should refrain from supporting such a union. Furthermore, considering a union between a Muslim girl and non-Muslim to be valid and permissible and to assist and support it will endanger one's Imaan and faith.

Moreover, concern should be shown by close family members and an effort to advise the girl of the consequences of her actions and also perhaps attempts should be made to influence the boy into accepting Islam if he wishes to marry this Muslim girl. May Allah Ta’ala grant understanding and protection.

Dua should be made for guidance and protection.

And Allah Ta'ala Knows Best
