Rulings pertaining to lending of money

Q: If somebody lent me some cash, 40 years ago, how much should be returned now? Exactly the same amount? If yes, why? Do we not consider the value of money changes?

A: The person can only claim back what was loaned. He cannot claim back more as this will be tantamount to interest and usury. The value of everything changes in relation to other things and commodities. Money in itself has no intrinsic utility. Therefore, if it was lent, only the amount lent can be recovered.
