The recent release of the national crime statistics have confirmed our worst fears, that contact crime in our country - which include murder, attempted murder, assault and sexual offences - have increased.

EU countries are currently arguing on how to cope with the tide of refugees from Syria, Iraq and other places and at the same time many EU states are to be commended for taking in both refugees and asylum seekers en masse.

Refugee Crisis

Syrian and other refugees have been and are experiencing a harrowing existence and their desperation to find refuge in the EU is understandable and due - not only to its proximity - but also the promise of a better life. Refuge for them in and around countries neighbouring Syria - particularly oil-rich countries - is a closed door policy, a phenomenon which Amnesty International has called ‘utterly shameful.’

As always, those who are struggling to survive or make ends meet will be most affected by the repercussions of this on our economy.
