The High Commission of India

Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre expresses its deepest concerns at the Government of India’s most recent heavy-handed military clampdown in Kashmir.

The people of Kashmir have been – since 1947 – at the epicentre of a conflict which has resulted in the destruction of family life, loss of the lives of countless innocent children, women and men and are enduring trauma and hardship at a level that has become unbearable.

The revoking of Article 370 which offered Kashmir and its citizens a degree of autonomy and the scrapping of the Article 35A by the Government of India has removed all hope that the people of Kashmir will ever see normality in their lives.

Further, such moves by the Government of India would mean increased instability in the region.

To iterate the repression in Kashmir and that the world is aghast at India’s action would not benefit the lives of Kashmiris.

What is required is human compassion on the part of the Government of India for the liberation of the people of Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir are subjugated by the military might of the Government of India and this might can vanquish them.

India is the world’s most populous democracy and it has - more than any other nation - the understanding, capacity and capability of offering democracy to a people who have shed blood and thirst so much for peace.
