The Outreach Team of Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre - together with students from Madrasah Islamia Ibrahimiyya and community volunteers in Vryheid - coordinated a broad outreach in Vryheid on Saturday, 11 August 2018.

The outreach in the area was part of the Centre's annual ‘Sponsor-A-Blanket’ winter campaign where blankets and other supplies are distributed to deserving communities.

The Outreach Team, students and community volunteers - headed by prominent Ulama, Maulana Maseehullah and Maulana Ahmed Kathrada - distributed 360 blankets, 720 snack packs, 350 stationery packs, 300 winter ear muffs and about 300 vegetable seed packs to pupils, parents and the elderly at the following schools and areas :

1. Tholithemba Primary School in Vryheid
2. The Hlengingqondo Primary School in Emadwaleni, Vryheid
3. The Lakeside community village in Vryheid
4. The ‘Roadside Informal Settlement’ (located en route to Dundee)

Representatives present at the outreach were the Chairman of the Hlengingqondo Primary School Mr Masondo and Head of Department Ms Nokwazi Ntshangase; Ms C Ngubani, Head of Department at the Tholithemba Primary School, Councillor Absolom Mbatha of Ward 13 Vryheid and Mr Joel Hlatshwayo, a representative from the local Induna’s office.

All officials present and many recipients expressed their sincere gratitude, particularly for the blankets received in view of the bitter cold experienced in the area.

Abdul Saeed Shaik, Head of Outreach, conveyed a special thanks and appreciation to all students of the Madrasah and community volunteers for their assistance and coordination in the outreach and, in particular, the hospitality of the Kathrada family.

These outreaches are made possible through the generous contributions and ongoing support of the Muslim community.
